There is a metallic part that looks a cooling fin under the low beam projector in the MY2013-current vehicles. What is it?

It is a cooling fin. The LEDs run hot enough to require cooling.

Thanks, Tec80, I thought so.

I am curious whether such cooling fins are also found in the low beam LEDs of Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Acura and Cadillac? I haven't looked closely, but many of their low beam housings look very compact and don't seem to have the room.

They all have to have some form of heat sink to dissipate the heat. They aren't always in plain view.

Interesting because I wasn't aware of cooling fins.

I don't have cooling fins on mine. I don't have LEDs either, but the first picture looks like standard HIDS?

The first pic is an LED light, it's just cropped.
