What's this thing in the 2014 LS headlight?

There is a metallic part that looks a cooling fin under the low beam projector in the MY2013-current vehicles. What is it?

It is a cooling fin. The LEDs run hot enough to require cooling.

I am curious whether such cooling fins are also found in the low beam LEDs of Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Acura and Cadillac? I haven't looked closely, but many of their low beam housings look very compact and don't seem to have the room. |

Interesting because I wasn't aware of cooling fins.

I don't have cooling fins on mine. I don't have LEDs either, but the first picture looks like standard HIDS?
