Exclamation 2013 & 2014 Navigation Map Updates - Alternative Sources?

Hello,

My 2013 LS460 came with 2013 year maps on the navigation system.

According to the Lexus website, the 2013 and 2014 navigation systems are "Generation 7" (while 2015 LS models are "Generation 8") and require a "USB Activation Card Number", which is part PT219-HDD07-14 and costs $169 plus the "installation charge".

I'm wondering if anyone has heard of any "alternative" sources for these update files... I imagine they may be reusable, unless the navigation "phones home" to the "mothership" with serial numbers for the license check...

Any thoughts are welcome...

Thank you.

You can use the search forum function to look for answers, but everything I've read states that one needs to go through Lexus for map updates. AFAIK, the map data, although originating from sources outside of Lexus, is integrated with the Lexus software/firmware.

The best alternative I've seen are the Vaistech products that mirror your phone to the Nav screen.

There is no way around it, the dealer has to do it. That said, your Toyota dealer can also do this update.

I don't think the map upgrades are worth it. You get minimal new information, little if any of which, likely relates to you. I used to upgrade them when I could get a DVD off CragsList for $20, but not any more, after seeing what was "upgraded".

It depends. I wouldn't do them evert year, but maybe every 3-4 years.

Sorry Jason, this sounds to me like a prohibited topic.
