True, BUT when you factor in current mortgage rates, having that extra money to put down on a house, would likely have little effect on the payments, interest etc. It would also depend on the house prices in the OP's area. Like I said before, we don;t have all the details on his situation, so it's impossible to say what would be best. I'm willing to bet it would be best to hang onto it (which he decided to do).

I remember my dad telling me a story, he said...see this old dining room set we are sitting in? The one I couldn't give away at a yard sale last year? Well I sold my 1970 GTO Judge convertible with the ram air IV for it back in 1972. Do you know what that car is worth today? Somewhere between $300,00-$330,000. Things got very quiet after that.
