I just changed brake pads front and rear. My light was on indicating need for such. After changing i figured light would reset and turn off. Not the case. How do i reset the light? Was there something i needed to do to sensor when pads changed? Any advice is appreciated.

The fact that you wore the pads down enough to trip the sensor means that the sensors have to be replaced. That's the only way you will get the light to go out.

 

Fo' real? I've never heard of such. Not doubting you, but that is a new one on me.

Used to, what would happen is brake fluid gradually works it's way down the lines due to the displacement of the brake piston due to pad wear. The lowering of the brake fluid in the reservoir tripped the brake light due to a float in the reservoir. Like gas in the tank getting low and tripping the low fuel light.

So, it's not this way in the LS? I'm interested because I like to wear everything down to the nub before I replace it. Would rather not replace sensors though.

From what I've read and from what I understand, once the brake sensors (located on the passenger side front and rear brake pads) has come in contact with the rotor to a point where it becomes worn over prolonged braking cycles, the light will emit and will not go off until the sensors have been replaced.
As expected, Lexus would charge close to a couple hundred buck per sensor, but I believe ebay sells the sensors for somewhere between $50-$80.

 

From what I remember changing brakes on my past BMW with the same kind of sensors, the sensors is nothing more then a magnet that can actually measure the distance from the rotor. Once it's extremely close or makes contact with the rotor it sets off the illumination. If you keep driving with the sensor making contact then it wears down the magnet and it's trashed.

I am inclined to say that what you've described is quite similar, if not, the exact type of sensor magnet system you encountered on your previously owned BMW.
Once the light has illuminated, the pads and sensor need to be replaced without question. Rotor replacement would depend on the condition of the rotors I'd assume.
As you've clearly stated, the sensors are then at that point, trash.
