brake wear light? u mean u have a light on the dash that reads..."brake" here is a bit of advice for anyone who may not know this .....when u are compressing ur calipers to put ur new pads in, make sure u dont push the fluid back up into the master cylinder through the abs unit.....loosen the bleeder valve and let the fluid go out that way.

now why would someone want to do that when even the FSM for the LS400 never mentions it?

OP-most likely you wore through the wear sensor, replacement or resoldering are your options.

by not pushing fluid back through the abs unit? that is abs brake 101...some things u dont learn by reading a book, being a mechanic and being around mechanics and having hands on experience will give u more information than any book, but here is one article i found....feel free to read

werd didnt even know that haha. every single mechanic i know just compresses the piston without bleeding it and call it a day. i would see why it would become and issue if you dont change out your brake fluid after 5+ years

i have worked in independant repair shops in the past (for no/little pay at that!) to learn the ropes and this is the first i'm hearing of this,, and i did a LOT of brakes, it was the 2nd thing i was allowed to do alone after an oil change .

while it does make sense I am pretty sure that provided there isnt any 15 year old brake fluid in there you should be alright without opening the bleeder valves. Mind you, i'm pretty **** about keeping the brake systems on all the cars i work on/own in slightly OCD shape (my car's due for a full ATE Super Blue flush next oil change, been 20k mi almost) so YMMV. Personally, i've never heard of anything bad coming of doing it the old way on any older cars with even decently maintained brakes.
