Default Two Items Need Fixing

The driver side mirror does not go into the closed position when the car is in park. The passenger side mirror does. I believe the motor in that particular mirror is broken. It has all of the regular functionality. So, technically I don't have to get it fixed.

Just returned from dealership on a recall item. They said my water pump is broken? They wanted 1,000 to fix it, but I told them no.

Any idea how much these parts should cost?

Amazon sells the OEM water pump (#16100-39506) for $163; you would probably want to replace the belt at the same time which is another $25. The DIY section has the steps involved if you plan to provide the labor, and if not I suspect most import shops could handle it for a fraction of the dealership's labor charge.

I had the same problem with my driver side mirror but it mysteriously started folding again. Expensive to replace the water pump.

Dealer quoted me 700 to fix my water pump. It has a small leak which can be seen by the crusty red stuff next to the pump. Your pump probably isn't broken but just leaking or else you would be overheating. I got my water pump from MyLParts.com which is a CL Vendor for 154 shipped. Go to the vendor forum and look for their post and you will see the coupon code. My trusted mechanic quoted me 200 for the pump installed. I am at 110K miles so I'm going to wait to do it all at once when I hit 120K. Spark plugs, brake fluid flush, water pump and rear diff fluid.

The dealer wanted 700 for the pump and 300 for labor. This is why I hate the dealer so much. Does anyone know how much it would be to replace the drivers side mirror motor?

You can buy a water pump on Ebay for 50 to 70 bucks with a lifetime warranty. It's not oem but even an oem one is under a hundred. I'm not a mechanic and I was able to change mine in under two hours including new belt and two hoses. Whether you do it yourself or get it done by an indy, be sure to use Toyota coolant and not a "universal" coolant (such as Prestone green coolant etc). Also, consider using a Toyota dealer rather than Lexus if you insist on dealer labour.

OK, I'm all about helping folks who try. I looked up '08 LS 460 SWB, left side and choose Black as your color (the mirror is already painted). It's $618.43. Now there's a discount code for CL members, look under vendors or do a thread search ( I can't while I'm composing a response ), I think it's 10% and may even offer free shipping. Part number will change with color # 8794050511C0.
You may be able to purchase the folding motor part used from Ebay or a salvage yard and fix your mirror as an alternative. It wasn't offered by L Parts. I replaced a mirror positioning motor on my old RX 330 for $50 and an hour of my time this way.
Good luck with your decision.

Also, to second Road Frog and swfl with assisting you with finding parts and trying to find a more financially feasible route, the water pump issue IS NOT/SHOULD BE NO WHERE NEAR $1k.
I recently did the repair myself.
I didn't replace as many parts as Road Frog did, because shortly before I purchased the car a Lexus tech was performing an inspection and broke the nipple on top of my radiator, so the rad was replaced along with the drive belt, upper rad hose and new fluid.
I replaced my water pump (somewhere around $80-$100 bucks, AISIN) two jugs of Toyo coolant- about $46, and a lower rad hose ($12) and rented a torque wrench from Auto Zone.
If you so desire, you can also replace your tensioner pulley since you'll be in there (about another $50). I decided not to, as its not making any noise and its not posing any issues currently. My train of thought was that I can go back in there and replace it when need be and it would take 45 minutes at the most.
Dealership cost versus what I quoted you...you do the math.
If you go the DIY route, as Road Frog said, make SURE you use Toyo coolant, and pay special attention as NOT to put your weight on the rad nipple, as it will break then you'll more than likely need to replace your radiator.
Hope this helps and good luck!

If you aren't a DIYer such as myself, do some research and find a good Lexus/Toyota mechanic. While the internet is good for those types of finds, it's also wise to ask around to friends. I found my shop accidentally at a party. The guy was talking to someone about getting his Lexus work done and I stepped in to the conversation. Next thing I know, the guy texts me the contact info. While I've not needed to go there "yet", I have sent others who raved about the work and huge savings compared to the dealership.

Find yourself a local shop and order your own parts. Good luck.
