Sitting in parking lot listening to ipod thru aux port opened door to access door pocket and sound system went nuts. I now have a high pitch noise coming thru all speakers on all settings even with audio off......

Yes, your amp probably needs replacing. One of those dreaded issues that comes with no warnings.

Who quoted you $725? Is that repair and labor to remove and reinstall?
