Default Platinum Plan Question

I have a Platinum Plan extended Warranty Question. Took our 2010 LS 460L in for it's 35,000 mile service. We are just returning from a 4,400 mile trip to Olympia WA (more on the trip when I get back to Bella Vista, AR on Wednesday). I have 33, 730 miles on it and needed an oil change. I had the 30,000 service done at Lexus of Omaha on the 24th of July with 29,750. While at Lexus of Omaha I went to talk to the finance Mgr. He offered to certify the car and sell me the Platinum Plan for the following price.

48 months/100,000 miles with $100 deductible at any dealer or $0 deductible if done at Lexus of Omaha for $2,640 or a $100 deductible at any dealer including Lexus of Omaha for $2,518.

48 months/125,000 miles same deal $3,228 or $2,983.

60 months/100,000 miles $3003 or $2,803

60 months/125,000 miles $3,508 or $3,208

72 months/100,000 miles $3,503 or $3,203

72 months/125,000 miles $4,223 or $3,778

Are these prices in line with other Platinum Plan extended warranty coverage prices?

I would guess that I might put no more than 8,000 miles on it a year. Maybe less depending on how many trips to VA or NE. Thinking 1 trip to VA 2,500 miles 3 trips to NE 3,400 miles. That would leave me with 2,100 miles a year for just driving around Bella Vista/NW Arkansas to make my 8,000 miles a year. The car will be parked 2/3 months a year while we are in HI for the winter.

Is it still under factory warranty? How long do you plan on keeping it?

Those prices seem high. Below I posted Lexus suggested prices back in 2011. I don't know if they have gone up since then. I bought the 8 year 100,000 warranty from Toby Rivers at Shreveport Lexus for $2150 (approx.). The suggested price was $3350. I just had a $1250 repair done with no deductible.

The formatting came out funny, but the first 2 prices are Platinum with and without $50 deductible and the third and fourth are for Gold.

No it is not. The in service date was 4/29/2010. The car was sold as a CPO in Dec of 2013 and than traded for a MB SL in April of 2014. The 4 year factory warranty ran out 4/29/2014. I bought the car in early July of 2014.

Question. If I read the warranty brochure correctly is the Gold coverage not less coverage than the Platinum Plan?

My question is can I get one of these when purchasing a CPO car? I know I will have the 3yr. 100,000 but id like to do the 4yr/125,000 or the 5yr/125,000. Also if I get this with my CPO do I have to get the extended from the dealer I am purchasing from or can I go where I can get the best pricing?

If I stayed inside the 8,000 miles a year the 6 year plan would take me out to the 85-90,000 mile mark and the car would be 10 years old.

No Dennis, the Gold coverage is not as good as the Platinum coverage. Read it all carefully. In my opinion if you are gong to get coverage, it is worth the $150 extra to get the Platinum, but that is your call.

I am not qualified to answer this question. From what I have been reading here there have been changes in what vehicles are covered and when. I was on top of this stuff when I got my extended warranty, but since then I haven't followed the changes since they don't affect me.

Hopefully someone else here can answer you or contact Lexus Corporate for info. I wouldn't necessarily trust what a salesman tells you.

Got a call from Lexus of Omaha an hour or so ago indicating they are in a warranty contest and offered to drop a $1000 off the previously quoted offer for the Platinum Wraparound plan. The plan was a 6 year or 100,000 miles for $3,203 down to $2,303 with a $100 deductible. We currently have 34,385 miles on our 2010 LS 460L. This would take us out to 3 Sep 2020. Thoughts please

This is not on a CPO extension. The car was not bought CPO although it had been sold CPO in Dec 2013, we did not buy the car until July 2014. The car's in service date was 29 Apr 2010 so it went out of factory warranty on the 29th of Apr 2014 while it was setting at a non lexus dealership.

Simple as this: dealer cost of basic 3/100 CPO is $995. Dealer cost for the "wrap" to take it to 6/100 is $1,430. Total dealer cost is $2,425 with no deductible.

With $100 deductible, I believe the cost drops by about $150. That brings the number down to $2,275. They are offering $2,303, which would be a steal if my $150 guess is right. Bottom line: I would recommend no deductible and offering as much as $2,500/2,550, starting at $2,400 though. You can't go wrong with that for a warranty until 2020 (which incidentally, I just got as well).

This is all Platinum, BTW.

I could have gotten the no deductible but it would only have been no deductible if I had brought it into Lexus of Omaha for repair otherwise it was still a $100 deductible and it was $300 more for no deductible at Lexus of Omaha only. I live 408 miles from Lexus of Omaha and 125 miles from Lexus of Tulsa. While I plan on using Lexus of Omaha as much as I can I was still going to pay the $100 deductible if I did not. Plus I got them to give me a trunk mat at cost. I feel good about the deal and it takes me out to Sept 3, 2020.

You sure this is warranty is from Lexus? Deductible should be the same no matter who the dealer is. I remember being told a story like that when they were trying to sell me 3rd party warranty
