Trunk Compartment Question

Default Trunk Compartment Question
As I was looking In the trunk compartment this morning, I noticed what appears to be a compartment on each side of the spare tire well. The one that the tie downs on each side are placed in. There is some type of funny round attachment that turn and seem to come up some but not out. Are there storage compartments under these spaces?

No. On the right is where the amp is and I'm not sure about the left side.
