Hey need some feedback. We pay $5.10 a gallon for gas here. I've been looking to alternatives to save gas. I've bought an Performance chip on eBay and was doing some reach online and got mix reviews with the installation of the chips.. I would like to know is an ECU really a gas saver and if any one has one installed.. Some people complained about the chip screwing up the car computer and would like some feedback and views on performance chips..

you just wasted $25. Those performance chips are just incased resistors that you can buy at radioshack for like 40 cents. And they dont do anything.

 

That's why I have it here sitting. Just seemed to off the wall to me that $25 bucks can save you hundreds in gas and so easy to install. Hey I waste more than that on a good day.. Lol

Replacement ECU chips are not just encased resistors. They must replicate all of the functions of the ECU they are replacing. The firmware programming is modified to advance timing, change fuel delivery, etc. However, few if any can optimize the cars performance/economy better than the manufacturers who have put millions of dollars into R&D to accomplish this.

However, I agree with NYKnick101 - you just wasted your money.

I almost did the same thing to my 430 until i read a thread about a guy who caused over $1000 worth of damage to his car in these CL forums.

 

Thanks PETEY.. I thrashed it already. I read the same thing earlier and was like HELL NAH.. I'll be adding a 600 to my collection hopefully in the coming months to get that hybrid to cut my gas trips. I'll continue using my IS as my everyday..

Best way to save gas is to leave you LS in the garage and drive a scooter. Or: just enjoy the 30mph you get on the highway in the LS

 

I really don't understand... people that use fuel additives and remap ecu's etc thinks that it saves fuel. To me the injectors are still injecting the same amount of fuel in the cylinders.. its all about the way you drive. I also don't believe that super burns less than regular.

Yep, that one certainly was a ripoff. I think we were talking about 2 different things, though. A snake oil component (encased resistor) vs a truly reprogrammed ECU firmware chip.

Neither of which are worth buying!
