Default Maintenance plans, Oil Change mileage??

Hey,

My local dealer offered me 6 oil changes/tire rotations, 15K service and 30K service for $1,142.00.

First oil change/rotation is free.

What you guys think?

Lexus suggests 10K oil changes for 13 and up?? I'm going to change mine every 5K.

Dealer also offered me a 7yr/70K warranty for $1,957 and a 7yr/100K for $2,612.00.

I'm going to give Troy Dietrich in MA a call about pricing for extended warranties. He always treats me right. Not going to buy one right away.

Since 95% of that is really only oil changes, I'd skip it. The 15 and 30k services are mostly "check" this and "inspect" that. Not worth it IMO.

I didn't buy mine until the week before my 4 year warranty was up. Why give them your money any sooner than you have to?

Those sound like high prices, even to this Canadian.

Why? Unless you don't plan to use synthetics or you don't drive the mileage within a year. Even 10k is conservative if you're using synthetic oil.

I have to get all my services done for warranty purposes? I got a good friend who owns a Auto repair place, he usually does all my work.I'll probably let him do it.

I need to call my Lexus Service dept? I think they said $80.00 for oil changes which isn't bad. If I do myself, I have to buy 8 quarts of synthetic plus the filter.

I'll probably do the same and wait to buy extended warranty.

Here's what Lexus says to do.

___Ball joints and dust covers
___Body
___Brake lines and hoses
___Engine coolant (see page 69)

Additional Maintenance Required If You Drive Primarily Under the Following Conditions
Driving on dirt roads or dusty roads:
❏ Inspect engine air filter
❏ Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis

roadfrog, Just got out of a 12 Range Rover Sport Supercharged, Land Rover said 10K for oil changes, I did mine at 7K.

I usually rotate my tires every 5K, I would rather rotate tires and get oil changed at same time or 7K for both. One less trip.

I hear ya. I just got out of a BMW 7 series which recommended 15k mile changes on synthetic. I sent in a sample of my oil at 12k miles to Blackstone Labs and it came back in the report that the oil was still doing it's thing with it's additive pack in tact and all values were great. They suggested I go a further 3k miles or so. LOL.

I'm going to change out my current oil at 5k miles and refill it with synthetic (I just got the car, so I don't know what type of oil is in there). Then, I'll take it to 8k miles at least and send in a sample for analysis. That'll give me a good idea where I stand for further intervals.

Agree, especially since they will likely check all these things anyway for free (they're looking for work to do all the time).
