Correct. I bought a 2008 600hL as a CPO in 2012. CPO adds 3yr/100k mile bumper to bumper or in other words adds 3 years to my date of purchase (2015) or when 100k hits odometer...whatever comes first. Then I paid an additional $1500 to extend (Wrap) the CPO to 5yr/125k miles which is Platinum or whatever but I still enjoy the bennies of bumper to bumper warranty until 2017 or 125k miles..within the 3 year period I have already had appx $3k worth of repairs and I can almost guarantee one air strut or more will need replacing at about $1500 each later. I feel good about my coverage knowing I can rest easy and repairs are on the house

Do you know if your wrapped CPO warranty is, on sale of the vehicle, transferable to the new owner or the unused portion refundable to you?

I think I remember the dealer telling me that the CPO warranty is not transferrable to a subsequent buyer.

CPO is not transferable. .but I thought someone mentioned that if unused it could be somehow factored in to new lexus vehicle negotiating or something

What does that car cost new? You should be able to get about $8K - $12K off a new 2013 LS at this time of the year if they are still available.
I'm in the market for a 2013-2014 LS460. Salesman told me, I could purchase at $10K off MSRP on a new 2013 model.

Well, a lot of good info on this thread.

I conclude that the first choice should be buying NON-CPO Lexus while still under original factory warranty, then buying factory extended warranty which is transferable and refundable.

Second choice is CPO purchase with wrapped CPO warranty extension to cover the entire expected term of ownership of the vehicle.

Third choice would be out-of-(factory/CPO)-warranty vehicle covered by third-party warranty.

Least desirable option is going bare with no warranty and full exposure to problems (can be mitigated somewhat by self-maintenance and use of indy repair shops or Toyota dealers)

^ pretty much nailed it. I look for a car under factory warranty because it pretty much covers everything on the car including TSIBs and try and get everything fixed before it expires. I would then buy the Lexus extended warranty right before the factory warranty expires for however long you need it (I did an extra 4 years 100k miles) to cover everything else. Remember the CPO and extended factory warranty is not as comprehensive as the original 4 yr/50k mile warranty and they don't even have to cover TSIBs after it expires.

Could you describe the shortcomings of the CPO/factory extended warranties compared to the original 4/50 one from Lexus. I was under the impression that factory extended and CPO were both bumper-to-bumper and essentially equal to the original factory warranty. Still some stuff to learn on this thread, apparently...
