Looking at various CPO 2011 LS460's for purchase and am wondering if this is a good year to be buying re quality, etc. Also, are the extra $ to get a CPO worth it vs. buying from a non Lexus dealer or private party? This will be my first Lexus and will be trading/selling my '02 Mercedes CL500.

It costs the dealer $1,500 to acquire the CPO warranty. The 2011 still should have original warranty left.
I would look at CPO cars and I would negotiate the price, then offer $1500 less without the CPO. Then when you get close to original warranty expiration (4 years or 50,000 miles from first owner) buy a Platinum Extended Lexus Warranty from Jerry Johnson. An 8 yr, 100,000 mile would run about $2,500. The advantage is its transferable or prorated refunded. Say you sell the car at 6 years old and 75,000 miles you will get a refund of $1,250). The CPO is not transferable or prorated.
