I have a 2008 LS460 LWB with 31,000 mile and even though my battery warranty doesn't expire

until next month, I've decided to replace it on my own as it seems to be laboring a bit.

Since I have two left hands and a small brain, are there any issues, suggestions, or tips to

changing out the battery that I need to know?

Do I have to reset anything or will all my settings be saved i.e. radio presets, TPMS, seat

memory, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

it's pretty simple. Some battery places will change it out for free. I have a Ever Start MAXX in my LS. You will have to redo your radio presets, not the TPMS, I don't remember about the others.

 

Also your hard drive will start a download so make sure u let it before you turn the car back off. Oh and your clock might need to be manually reset.

 

you might need to reset all the windows / moonroof

 

..if the new battery is in your trunk , be sure to remove it before disconnecting the old battery .. and keep the drivers side door open a crack

 

I would never have some place change my battery for free.......who knows what they will do?

Plus, on a modern car you should always disconnect the negative first and reconnect it last.

 

Lets start from the top, what is the easy way to remove the 'engine cover' clips covering the battery?

 

I just changed mines out no problems just make sure you don't drop any nuts bolts or tools!!! Lol

 

You push the center of the clips down with your finger and they should release. They are reusable if they are the factory clips.

 

Just push down on the clips..... It's real easy. Once you lift the plastic covers, there is one bolt holding the battery down. Just lift the tie down up and pull it out. Unhook terminals and swapped batterys.

I've changed my battery twice so far, and no issues in both times.

You may need a flat piece of metal to remove a couple clips on the lower end of the battery plastic cover whereas the clips on the upper end can be removed by pressing the clip to loosen it and take it out afterwards (if I remember correctly).

What to expect after the battery change?
Well, expect the radio, clock, seat memory settings to have gone briefly. In few minutes everything will go back to where it was before the battery change. Also you'll notice the rpm gauge will act differently for quite a while before it settles down. At least this is what happened with me in both times when I replaced my battery.

Last and most important thing I'd say is pick your battery wisely. Consider DuralLast Gold. Only if I could ship it to Saudi Arabia, I wouldn't be investing $100 and 4 hours of inconvenience every year on a damn inferior battery designed to last one day past the warranty.

The Owner's Manual says in a couple of places that the TPMS must be initialized if the battery is discharged or removed.

Maybe that happens to some cars, just helped a friend change his out a few days ago and only needed to adjust the clock and reset the radio station. Maybe this occurs if the battery is drain or removed for a period of time.
