Unfortunately I was in love with the 460 until I drove the S550 so I gave in the LS for S550. Love the ride and options.

 

Congratz and good luck! Get ready for a much higher cost of ownership though.

 

yup, the w221 is a better ride i think, but the electronics on the LS are way easier to use haha

I sure hope you're under warranty until 100k with full bumper to bumper coverage b/c IF NOT! Good luck with "Break your Bank Account" Maintenance costs kind sir!

 

I'm curious what options it has that the LS doesn't.

When I bought mine in 2007, the S550 had the night vision, but that was the only thing that the LS didn't offer. But then the LS had the self park which the S550 didn't.

 

1st i'll say good luck with the Merc.. before i bought my LS i looked into the S class.. an the only advantage i found (if u can call it that) was the ability to say i drove a mercedes S class.. then i looked at the cost of service an promptly left!!! again GOOD LUCK

 

ITS covered by mercedes 3yr/135k so im good bumper to bumper. As for options that differ from LS the nav screen can swivel to driver or pass. thats good if watching a dvd. The rear seats can recline in 8 different positions, you can read more info from the dash,front massage seats and when you turn corners the side of the seats fill up with air to hold yourself in place, power trunk closure from inside the car,night view, the seats far more comfort, h/d sounds better than ml system and xm radio looks much better. I can list some others but this is good. I still love the LS and everybody on here has been very helpful maybe when the new LS come out i might return.

 

I have to say the recent JD power ranking on Lexus and the LS make me feel nice and safe in my choice of sedan

 

Good luck..I like the look of the benzos but my wallet prefers LS reliability...

 

The bottom line is all these luxury cars could have problems is being covered that gives us a peace of mind.

 

The S550 is without a doubt the superior vehicle in terms of design, materials quality, technology and overall craftsmanship. I also find it to be a bit quieter (less wind noise, more road noise), a bit smoother and more solid/heavy feeling.

It feels like 30K dollars more car, to me anyway.

HOWEVER, Mercedes cars require a lot more pampering, finesse, preventative maintenance and TLC. I would not recommend owning one out of warranty. PERIOD.

Enjoy your car, but when that warranty gets close be ready to bail out. The overall reliability just isn't there.

 

2 very different cars, period

 

The s-classes get too cheap these days
there are two 2007 s550 at Cadillac dealer near me: one for 33k (70k miles) one for 37k (50k miles)

I love S-classes but the problem is while my LS460 is just breaking in at 50k miles, the s550 is already breaking apart

As far as design goes s550 is weird design, it looks terrible without sports package, but amazing with sports package.
I actually drove the s550 and wasn't all that impressed, however I really hate that lexus still didn't figure out all the neat interior details that make German cars look richer inside

 

Hmmmm, I guess they figure the 3 years will run out before the mileage. Not many people put over 45K miles per year on their car unless they use it for work, e.g. salespeople.. I'm pretty sure they used to be 4 years back in 2007, but I could be wrong.
