My vehicle is a 2008 LS460.

Since new, its possible to shut the engine off when the shifter is anywhere but in Park.....not good

Couple times my wife has turned the car off only to have it roll as it was not in Park

Anyone experience this..?

The dealer in Portland is a real pain and has never been able to correct this.

 

is it really that hard to shift to P when car is actually parked and you're about to get out?

 

Not at all smart ***... just seem rather unsafe that the vehicle can be turned off in gear or neutral...

 

only when it's slow enough to certain speed. if you are going at street speed, i believe someone tried and you can't shut off the car. and this is also a "feature", for those who is talking on the phone through BT. when you shut off the car when it's not in P, it will go back to acc mode so BT still works. there is nothing to correct

 

If you are going at any speed and you push the button rapidly 3 times or so won't it shut off?

I'm not sure about the 2008 LS460, but at least for the 2011 the engine can be turned off while in motion by pressing and HOLDING the engine-start-stop button for more than 3 seconds (e.g. emergency situation).

 

that's the case for all lexus with start button not just 2011, been covered before when toyota was bombed with the stuck pedal stories.
