Default How secure is the LS?

Ok, I'm shipping my car to California and heading out for a West to East coast road trip (alone) at the end of June.

Yes, I know it'll be hot, and that's part of my question.

If I leave the windows rolled up when I lock the car, it'll get extremely hot, especially during the day when I stop to see "The worlds biggest ball of string".

What I'd like to do is lock the car and leave the windows cracked open a few inches...

How much protection will the alarm system provide if I do this? I don't care about items in the car, just the car itself.

My guess is anyone who would try to steal this kind of car would be a professional. He will either know how to circumvent the alarm and the ignition, or he will come with a flatbed tow truck. Your worse case scenario is some idiot amateur who tries to steal it and all he does is ruin the door and the ignition switch/dashboard trying to break in and start it. In either case I wouldn't worry about it.

As far as the heat goes, definitely crack all 4 windows an inch, keep your window shades up, and use one of those windshield shades in the front (or always park the car facing away from the sun).

Drive safely and have a great trip!

Tinting the windows/windshield would be a good investment.

That's a good idea about the windshield shade. I'll get one.

If anyone's interested, here's my route: I can still make changes if anyone knows of a roadside sight that I shouldn't miss.........

It's split into two parts 'cause I'm taking the ferry from Milwaukee to Muskegon and Google maps doesn't know about ferrys. Why the ferry? Just 'cause they're fun.......

Part 1

Part 2

It's a tough call, but from St. Louis, I'd take I44 and on to Branson and then Tulsa.

I thought google maps just consider the ferry as a continuation of the road, like in washington state the ferry is a continuation of the road. and it will show as a dotted line or something else.

Perhaps I just couldn't figure out how to do it, but whenever I tried to route from Milwalkee to Muskigan, it used the land route…

If you leave the windows open and lock the door with the remote, and someone reaches it and unlocks it with the unlock button or by pulling the lock latch, the alarm will go off. I had a tilt sensor installed in the car and the people that hooked it up said it was a complex system. They played with it for a while to see how it worked and they're the ones that figured out the door lock/windows down feature. They are working on installing a feature that will roll the windows up and close the sunroof if the alarms goes off as well.

if im not mistaken all it takes is a 15sec timed pulse to the lock wire(or alarm arm) connected to either a alarming output or a relay off the siren output.. not too difficult. tell em to search directechs.. they could even add an interior motion or proximity sensor so if someone reaches inside the car it'll trigger the alarm as well.. but be careful w the adjustment bcuz it will false alarm during rain or windy days if its set too high

Because of sudden downpours which are quite common during summer. Also the direct sunlight thru the sunroof will negate the venting.

I have this one. It blocks the heat almost completely, but I hate its size. I have to keep it in the trunk when I have passengers in the back seat where I usually keep it.
