I went to Lexus dealership yesterday for oil change and tire rotation. Previously (month ago) I was at the same dealership for the TSB on dashboard vibrations. I was told at the time that since the front bumper of the car has been worked on that if there is damage to the firewall, i would be responsible for the damage. There was no damage and was not charged for the TSB. Next day I noticed that the HDD was playing but there was no sound. Called the service department and spoke with the lady that was helping me. She said I didn't need appointment and to come in whenever and they will look at it. Fast forwarding to yesterday. Check my car in at 3:30 pm and at 5:20 they told me that the car was ready and that HDD not having volume is not related to the previous repairs and ofcourse use the same excuse "The cars front bumper has been worked on so...." Diagnosis will start at $105.
I would appreciate any suggestion into this matter. I have owned the car for 4 months and everytime I go in the shop with problem...everything is related to the FRONT BUMPER. I am sure that if I ask them about the economy...I am pretty sure that it is due to my Front Bumper also.
that sounds pretty irresponsible from dealership... hard to imagine relationship between front bumper and other stuff, but anyway...
back to your problem. so you can see it's in hdd and it's playing but no sound? did they say when they did the dash tsib, what did they do? did they touch the radio, like taking it out? if so, how can they deny the possibility of forgetting a connection? if not, how did they do the dash fix? i think that's step one
on the other hand, have you tried playing cd? how about mp3 cd? or dvd video? are they all ok? that will help isolate the problem (i assume you have mark levinson)
my gut feeling is that one of the harnesses is dangling or not plugged in fully. but of course there could be other possibilities
The dash noise fix does involve removing the entire center stack. There are a lot of harness connectors on both the radio receiver and the multi-display. I'm guessing they either left one disconnected or possibly broke a wire.
Unfortunately I don't have access to my wiring diagrams just now to see if there is a likely culprit.
Since they are doing TSBs I'm assuming the vehicle is under warranty? So why are they charging you to diagnose? I would escalate this to at least the service manager at that dealership, higher if necessary, and point out that you are tired of having the front bumper work blamed for everything.

Sorry got the delay...was out of town for work.
Rominl...DVD player works just fine it is just the HDD...one of my friend told me he had same experience at that dealership so should I go to the service manager or straight to lexus customer service??
Also today I noticed that my passanger sit makes this squeekeee noise when I go over a rought road (I can actually see the front passanger seat shake). I have ls460l with executive package...thank you all for your input.
Just got back from the dealership....HDD still not fixed...can someone give me instructions on how I can reach the back of the Audio system and Fix the problem. I am sure it is just the wire in back of the unit.
place the vehicle in a low gear with the motor off.
Pull the two side panels off the center console by your knees, then there is a small plastic part by the latch for the center console area, it pulls straight up. On the drivers side there are two bolts, next to each other, pull those out and the center console piece pulls straight up, you will need to take the shift **** off, its counter clockwise and just threads off. You will also need to pull out the ash tray, its just clipped in.
Now the Radio has TWO bolts that hold it in and they are on both sides and tilted up about about 40 degrees, you will need a socket and they come out (down as you are looking at them) the radio unit now has some strong clips that hold it on, when the bolts are free just pull it out towards the rear of the car, you may need to take a flat head screwdriver and gently pry the lower corners to work a couple of the clips out. you will see a few multipin connectors on the back and two antenna cables.
It goes back together in reverse order. 1st time might be 30 min, 2nd time and beyond about 10 min flat.

I have the service manuals and actually used a couple of them for cross reference to take out my dash center, i had the annoying clip or cable sound. it was pretty simple, two bolts hold the center console, two hold the radio and two hold the Nav, with it all out I determined that it was all fine, the plastic in the Nav was part of my problem, I took some Shin Etsu grease and put a little around the edges and the clips, half my problem solved.
Then I took some thick material and folded it into a V about 1 inch on each side, took a painters spatula and pushed them in between the window and the back of the dash, about 5 inches apart and across the front. I pushed them all the way down so they are not visible, also used black material. My dash is now completely silent! I guess the clips in the back needed some help, but I was not going to let the dealer tear the dash out when about 10 small patches do the trick just fine.
Thankyou cmasten...actually my HDD quit working after I got the TSIB done for center clips...I did let the dealer tear my dash and now I am paying for it...
cmasten...Here is what I have done. Remove the two side panels off the center concole, small plastic part, pull the ashtray out, take the shift **** off, pulled the center console piece and rest it on the passanger seat. Now I am looking at two black philip head screws were the ashtray use to seat...do I take them out? This is my first time opening the center concole so if some one have detailed steps it would be very helpfull. Thank you.
On the sides of the radio where you removed the side panels you will see a small round hole that allows you access to a bolt that is into the radio bracket at about a forty degree angle down, you will just need to remove the two bolts, one on each side about half way up the radio and then it pulls out the front. You may need to then use a flat head to help it out until you get the clips out far enough to just slide it out. There are two more small screws that hold in the nav once you get the radio out.
Te bolts holding the radio in are up from the access hole about two inches so you will need to be laying down to look up and see them.
In order to locate the bolts for the Radio, you will need to look "up" from the floor into the side of the radio. They are visible through a round hole - one on the driver's side, one one the passenger side of the center console.
If you're a fanatic, be extremeley careful removing and reinstalling these bolts. They can easily drop down and they're next to impossible to recover.
The good news is, they do not need to be reinstalled if you don't want to and will not affect the car. The clips are plenty strong to hold the radio in and I can assure you that even with out replacing these bolts, there will be no rattles.
