Default Emblem De-Badging

Does anybody know if the "Lexus" (on the left) and LS460 (on the right) emblems clip on to the trunk or are they just adhered with double-sided tape? I know on the older model ones the letters all ran together and had a clip on each side to help with the mounting of the emblems. But I am guessing these newer emblems, since all letters are seperate, are just mounted with double-sided tape. However, I am thinking that the Lexus "L" emblem in the middle is probably clipped on as well as taped on. Can someone please help me with this? I dont want to remove these emblems only to find out there are holes in the trunk . Thanks in advance.

according to the service manual for 2007-2009 model LS's all the emblems on the trunk lid are held on with tape. Tape around it and use something like piano or guitar wire to just cut underneath it.

Thanks CMasten...I am just worried that it might have the double-sided tape AND the the "peg" that protrudes out of the emblem that goes in a small hole(s) on the car.

No need to remove, unless you are re-painting. De-badging makes the car look like it was in accident and cheaply repaired by a hack job body shop who forget to put the badges back on.

Yeah, why debadge? It's not like you have a BMW M5 or anything like that and you want to fly stealthy. People will still know what model it is without the badge but might think it was recently painted is all.

I guess its just a matter of personal preference. Personally, I think thats alot of "clutter" with all the letters and numbers in the rear, not to mention free advertising for Lexus. Most importantly, I have seen cars without the emblems and its just a "cleaner" look esp on a white car. The Lexus logo is enough for me. Being that this is a nice high-end luxury car I highly doubt people will think the car made a trip to the bodyshop and that they forgot to put the emblems on, or at least I wouldnt think that...LOL.

Ok, that's good reasoning then. If I ever am traveling and see a white one without a badge at a stop light, it will HAVE to be you so I'll say "Hi, it's Stever500 from Club Lexus".

Don't use metal wire. Use fishing line (monofilament) to avoid scratching the painted surface, but heat the area up beforehand with hot water, or a hair dryer to soften the adhesive.

I have always thought the same thing. It looks like shotty body work, especially because people usually never do stuff like that to an LS. They aren't expecting it to be debadged so they will think something is wrong

did u guys know that the benz dealer.. will swap emblems if u ask them too.. my friend had an 500SL (later found to be a 300SL) he did the same thing on his S class.. S320 to S500 in 20 mins... they will even add AMG Sport decals too..

We drive the flagship lexus.. theyre are only 2 versions ...460 & 600 (L version avail also) (anyone worth theyre salt can look at the headlights to see the diff) but we're not tryin to upsell our cars. not takin a 50k car an lying to make it look like a 100k car.

i mean no one here is adding an extra L at the end to make people think its longer than it is....(enzyte commercial popped into my head... lmao)
