I was thinking about getting a spare key fob, and am wondering how many different fobs can be programmed to the car. I know on my LS430 there was a limit, something like 1 valet key, and 3 regular keys. I don't recall seeing it mentioned in the manual.

And is there a credit-card style key available for the 460?

 

The limit, I believe, is 5... yes, there is a credit card key: see here.

Of course, your Lexus or Toyota dealer will need to program them.

 

Does anyone know what keys come standard. There would be a credit card key and at least one remote operable key but I wonder if more than one remote is included with the delivery of the car.

 

for ls460, i believe it's just 2 fobs

for the 600hl, you get a credit card key.

i don't think they have changed it for 2010, that's for US of course

 

I purchased a 2010 LS460L and received 2 electronic keys, but not a credit card key.

 

For the 460 you have to purchase one. They are a nice option, especially on weekends when you dont need office keys, etc.

 

According to the info on thst Sewell site:

"Programming may be completed by any Lexus Authorized Dealer or professional locksmith or you may attempt to program your Lexus key yourself with the proper key programming instructions."

There is no procedure for self-programming, unfortunately and the locksmith cannot do it on the LS460 unless he has Toyota's proprietary Techstream computer (very unlikely.)

I think Sewell's instructions are probably generic. They've said before on here that it does require a dealer... and believe me, it does.

If you have a good relationship with the dealer and/or are bringing it in for something else, they may not charge you at all.

 

The fob must be programmed at the dealer and I'm sure you can have at least 3. I had a LS460 and got the credit card and it programmed at the dealer. I have 600 now but it didn't come with the credit card but I just ordered one from Sewell.

 

According to the THEFT DETERRENT / KEYLESS ENTRY: ENGINE IMMOBILISER SYSTEM: REGISTRATION (2010 IS250C IS350C) manual, a maximum of 7 keys can be registered.

 

For the 600 you get a credit card key and two standard fobs.
