Default 7.1 update cost $265?

The dealer is saying that the upgrade to 7.1 will cost $265 and that it is a charge from Lexus directly since they got to request some kind of key to do the upgrade.... I made sure that he understoods i wasn't asking for the GPS upgrade but he said it's all part of the same upgrade.

I told him that i just want to the update that allows to bypass the "i agree" screen but what should i say to get them to understand that?

well they didn't misunderstood anything. if you have i agree screen, you have 6.1. to "take it away", you need 7.1 or above, and that's a full upgrade and you have to pay. some dealerships might do it under goodwill, but technically you have to pay

and btw, the newest should be 8.1 already

Got you, i was looking at it like a firmware upgrade and i'm not use to pay for these :-)
Also, i'm about to install the overide that's why i wanted 7.1 before i do it but now if i get 8.1 will the overide still work? does it matter which i do first 8.1 or overide?

7.1 or 8.1 doesn't matter, the override will work just fine. yeah the firmware comes with the whole navigation upgrade unfortunately so you can't just get part of it

ben, the i agree screen is only on 6.1 nav. 7.1 and 8.1 both have that removed already. just a warning screen and it goes away after couple of seconds.

7.1 and 8.1 does not allow nav operation when driving. you need the override module in order to use it or watch dvd (if you have ML) when driving. you can email chung@prestigioussociety.com for more info. i had it on my ls460l and now gs350, love it and use it pretty much every day. can't beat it when i can use the nav and all phone / audio settings when driving

My dealer did it for $100 and it is worth the money. I really hated that I agree screen and I really like to watch the map. In the grand scheme of things, think of it as a $265 option on a $70,000 car and you will feel just fine

It's tough to ask dealers for goodwill in these increasingly difficult times, so you may want to direct this request at Lexus instead, as I did. You can ask your dealer to plead your case direct with them, that's not a big deal for them. I told my dealer I was annoyed at the "I agree" screen, and a lot of map conflicts and invalid POIs. That broke the ice for me. Tell them, if the "I agree" screen was such a wise decision in the first place, why did they remove it on later upgrades? That change alone should be a TSIB, imho. If they balk, ask them for the 7.1 instead of the more recent 8.1. I still shake my head when I see Lexus cars running around town with the stupid "I agree" screen staring back at them; what a pathetic image that projects.

If all else fails, ask your salesman to split the cost with you. He made a few bucks when he sold your car, maybe it's time for him to secure a future sale with you, with a little "goodwill".

Lux,

What did your dealer do for $100? Are you just able to NAV while in Motion or are you also able to watch a DVD?

Romin- How much was your mod?

I am not sure about the DVD, they upgraded the Nav to eliminate "I Agree" but I am not even sure what version. They did eat a good bit of the cost though, I saw nearly $300 adjusted off of the bill. However, I pretty much paid sticker for my car so they are pretty nice to me
