I get the warning screen for like 3-seconds and then it goes off, is that what you have now? or is it different from mine with NO warning screen?

Lux,

It appears your dealer did not do a by-pass... they simply updated your system (GPS) software to 7.1 > and that gets rid of the "ok" prompt. I'm interested in the bypass that would allow you to navigate while driving as well as watch DVD (Kids in back seats). I'm running 7.1 on my 08 Sequoia Platinum -- simply modify the (run) file and you get the 7.1 maps with the 6.1 ability to nav and drive. Not sure if this mod will work on the LS since its hard drive based.

Sellhomes -- Yes 7.1 > will have a few second WARNING - the benefit is that you don't have to Acknowledge anything for the NAV system to start.

terrain, the bypass override mod is a module that you install on the car, there are other threads about it. if you want, email chung@prestigioussociety.com or kevin@prestigioussociety.com about the details. i got it from them long ago (was the first one to import it actually) so it cost me a lot more, but i think now it's probably like 300? i didn't follow closely

Default GPS 8.1 Upgrade

For what it's worth, I was at the Lexus dealer yesterday and they confirmed 8.1 is available, cost $265.00 and must be ordered against your VIN (I suppose an anti piracy tactic). Parts dude says it takes about 10 tens to arrive. The service writer indicated the dealer should install it because "...you have to take the trunk apart to get to the unit". He didn't offer to say how much they charge for this service.

Does anybody have a suggestion on which SoCal Lexus dealership has the 8.1 upgrade? I am OK to pay the $265. I just dont want to arrive at the Lexus dealer and they tell me oh thats not available yet because they are uninformed.....

I am sure some of you guys have good interactions with your service writers and I want to utilize that good rapport to make it a quick and painless interaction....

thanks again guys

They have to order it, so call your dealer and inquire about it. They don't have them in stock.

I just came back from Crown Lexus, they said the upgrade to 8.1 is $436 or $463, I can't remember, installed. So thats parts,labor, and tax out the door. They said they charging 1.5 hours labor. And there is a lead time of 5-7 business days. Does that price sound fair?

Or should I shop around to Longo, Glendale and Newport Lexus....?

let me know

thanks

Wow - for 400+ I would skip it unless you find that POI's, streets etc... are not on the version you have.

Does anyone have 8.1 yet? If so, are the differences only in the map data? Or are there any software or user interface changes?

Airek,

Please do not go to Crown Lexus. They are the most dishonest dealership (not just the Lexus dealership) I have ever experienced in my life time. When I was shopping for my LS460L before. they lied about having a brand new one to the exact specs. I wanted. After spent one hour getting there, they reveal the car was actually an USED one and upon inspecting the car, it has been abused quite a bit even it only had few hundred miles. Stay away!
