1. I'm not using it, because I live in Israel and we don't have the maps here so I'm using another unit, and the signal for the speed is limiting me from dialing while driving.
2. Are you sure it is the shark fin? I thought it was the phone's...
I inquired about this with my service department last year as I was considering installing XM Satellite on my 460. They told me that the factory shark's fin could not be retro-fitted and they would install a puck on the roof at the same location (or they could make it more discreet by fitting it to the rear deck behind the rear passenger headrests). I didn't go ahead with it as the puck was not my cup of tea, and they could not guarantee equal reception with this design.
You may be better off cutting the wire at the HU and not look for the antenna. There was a post here some time ago about Nav Hack DIY. I believe it had pictures of what had to be done.
Good luck.
P.S. Another option would be to purchase the NAV Override Unit from prestigioussociety.com. The unit will also allow you to watch DVD while in motion. Great service and they are a vendor here.

I think they are mistaken about the sharkfin being the GPS antenna. I'm sure they would have to mount a "puck" for the XM, but that's because they couldn't add the antenna to the rear window.
And to answer your question AYahoo, no we don't know where the fu*&*% antenna is!
PS- Ayahoo, if Onepointon doesn't read this, send him a private message. He will defintiely know the answer.
You had me wondering there for a minute NSZ. Anyway, I did a search and found loads of threads about the sharkfin, and most if not all imply that it is the XM receiver antenna. Googling also brought up similar results.
The GPS antenna is usually mounted to the bottom side of the dashboard, although I'm not 100% sure that is the case on the LS460. It usually requires removing the dash.
You could definitely pull the radio/nav unit out and unplug it from the backside. It will be a gray, square connector with one wire going in it. I would maybe recommend getting your dealer to do it to prevent you causing damage to the interior. That stuff is NOT cheap.
