Accuracy of Nav System (2008 LS460)

Well, I know what you guys mean, but after owning 3 Garmin aftermarket navs, that Infiniti OEM nav, and 3 Acura OEM navs, the Infiniti was the only one that placed me on an adjoining service road while driving down a freeway ... or all the way through an intersection when I was sitting at a red light waiting to go.
I realize GPS accuracy in civilian units isn't as precise as military spec, but SIRF III chips are supposed to be good to 2 meters (a bit over 6 feet), and nav mfr's build in that error when they position the location cursor on the map display. That being the case, the little arrow-within-a-circle icon should show up right at the street intersection when you are stopped on the white line. My LS does that, as did all my other nav's - except the Infiniti.
And BTW - the Infiniti techs agreed it was off, but they couldn't make it register right either. I didn't want the whole unit replaced, so I just accepted it.

The Nav in my new Mercedes is so bad that I bought a 4.3”
Garmin 680 and have it attached to the windshield.
Yes, that doesn’t look too good. But, it is one terrific little Nav.
Just so pathetic that you would have to do that in an ’08 MB.

I am finding my nav to be slow in updating.
On the 150' range running 70mph the top of the circle just starts to touch the croos street when I am at the center of the cross street. I have tried the onscreen calibration and it doesn't seem to improve any.
My $300 garmin is much more accurate

What strikes me is the OP never came back to acknowledge the folks who responded.
But I digress. A number of factors can affect GPS accuracy, e.g. the number of satellites polled, atmospheric conditions, and other interference. When the military allowed civilian use of the GPS satellites they "dumbed down" the system so that accuracy was something like 30 feet, while military accuracy was well within 3 feet (the exact measurement was classified, maybe it still is).
My handheld (and I also mount it on my Harley) Magellan unit matches my Lexus unit exactly. I suspect that you may have some problem with your unit's software, or possibly the antenna.
I only wish all the data available on my Magellan were also available on my Lexus. The info is obviously available, there is just no function to bring it up.
