Default Odd Smell From A New LS460?

Just picked it up today and after driving it home noticed a funky smell. Drove the car some more later on in the day and still making this wierd smell. This isn't the rotten egg smell, Its almost like a burning or melting of plastic smell. Did anyone else have this smell coming from the car? And when the car was brand new < 70 miles, could you hear the idle in the car while just sitting in it with the air and stereo off? Because I can hear it WAYYYYY more than my old LS430

Anyway, please get back to me. We're going to the dealership tomorrow to pickup my car because I left it there overnight.

Thanks Guys.

P.S. , Idk if this should be in the car care section, I put it in here because more people would know and I also dont know if its actually a problem yet.

Mine had that burning plastic smell for the first day or two, not anymore. As for the idol, the engine does sound different than my old 430, but I didn’t perceive is being way louder.

my car almost sounded like a diesel engine running, I had the dealership do this fix http://www.lambros.net/tsib/2007LS/L-EG012-07.pdf and it worked perfectly. The first dealership tried telling me that the noise was normal, The second dealership actually started three other 460's and the difference was obvious.

Sometimes cars have a layer of protection that is applied to them that needs to burn off (as the car heats). I can't remember my LS having it but I remember my last BMW literally was smoking as this stuff was burning off. It was gone within one week.

Maybe the leather on some cars comes off the back of the cow...

it's mostly the exhaust system getting up to temp. all that new steel has to burn in before it will stop stinking.

I think Luxury 1 is talking about cosmoline. I know BMW's are coated with it, but not I don't think Lexus uses it. I didn't have any smell with mine. I did drive 110 miles on the highway to get home...

My old RX300 had that weird smell you are talking about, haven't experienced that with my IS though. It'll go away in a couple of days.

What part of NY are you from?
That could also explain the funky smell...

I didnt drive it 110 miles straight, brought it home and drove around in it. The smell's gone, but this engine idle is quite loud that link allkllr provided was for 2007 LS460's, this is an 08, you think they'll be ok with it?

Im in Manhasset Hills, NY

Anwar,

You may also want to take a copy of TSIB EG014-07 in with you and/or read it and see if it seems to apply to what you are hearing from the engine.
