IIRC there are no buttons on the Smart Card, unlike the Smart Key fobs. There is a hidden mechanical key however.

Hmm, interesting, I was reading that Sewell charges for the cutting of the mechanical key, and then one's dealer can program the transponder codes. From what I read elsewhere about the Smart Card, to access the mechanical key in the smart key, there is a small lock release button on the back and the mechanical key slides out...maybe it is sold separately from some vendors.

correct, there is a slot for a special mechanical key you can release. but i also think it's sold separately. at least it seems like you can get it separaetly

nope......just got mine from Sewell......not only did they include separate mechanical key, but they also cut the mechanical key inside the credit card as well!!! (IOW, 2 keys included!!)

as i said in the other post - Sewell rocks when they do a GB discount.....

I will still have to take the credit card key into one of the local lexus dealers to program it to my car though ($50)...

it is confusing.....that's why i pm'd them to make sure.....when you go thru with the link, it'll take you to the page with the "smart key assembly".....with the GB discount, I got it for ~260 shipped.....it came with:

1. mechanical key (same size as the one in the smart fob)
2. credit card key (with it's own internal mechanical key (smaller and thinner) inside as well)

I followed their instructions to fax my insurance papers (as proof of ownership) to get the mechanical key 'cut' via the VIN.....now all i have to do is bring the credit card key into the local dealer for programming (~$50).....hope this clarifies the confusion/questions regarding the credit card key.....

btw...don't know if they 'accidentally' gave me an extra 'mechanical' key.....as i was only expecting the credit card key with it's imbedded key inside......must be that awesome customer service from Sewell!!!
