AFAIK, there have been a number of press reports (FamilyCar, AutoWeek, other places) where a future AWD version of the LS 460 is suggested, with speculation on a 2008 announcement at earliest. However, nothing is certain--outside of the fact that the LS 600h and LS 600h L are AWD vehicles and coming out later this year.
It is possibly in the works, but Lexus is, as with virtually all future product plans, remarkably tight-lipped and secretive about things.
But it is a question that some reporter worth his or her salt should ask a high-ranking Lexus exec sometime soon...maybe at one of the press conferences...
yup, 600hl is for the US. in japan and europe you get 600h.
kind of make you feel special?
Not really, I think they get BOTH LWB & SWB for the 600h in Japan (& Europe too I think ?) , so nothing special & exclusive about the 600hL in N.America

Yes, according to all current industry reports and according to some insiders, the LS460 will indeed get AWD, after the LS600h comes out. It makes sense, since the LS Hybrid uses a mechanical AWD system, and that can be easily installed into a regular LS.
I spoke with 2 different Lexus guys at Philly Auto Show yesterday and both told me that Lexus is looking to do so within the next two years. I only inquired because of my interest in the new LS460 and wanting AWD as oppose to RWD.
