I've verified the accuracy of the speedometer by a gps app on my phone. The speedometer in my LS is dead on accurate at 79mph. However, in my wife's '12 Highlander and daughter's '12 RAV4 at 79mph both speedometers show 81-82 mph. So does this mean the mileage is actually lower than indicated?
Like the sensors in the car, the sensors in your phone are also not accurate enough for this sort of measurement. While enough for basic location and navigation services, the polling/refresh rate is far too slow for high speed measurements.
Devices like Dragy and racebox have 10-25x the refresh rate and can accurately provide this sort of data. Laser/Radar is also more accurate than using a phone.
But the post is about 0-60 times, so what the speedometer is off at 100MPH doesn’t impact that.
FWIW radar readouts you pass on the side of the road also always read 2-3 MPH short of what the speedometer reads, which is what GPS also reads in my experience.
Update: I used techstream and had identical results to my basic scanners reading. 50mph read to 48, 55mph to 53, 60mph 58, and 65mph to 63. All tested with use of cruise control and held at speed for a few seconds.
It takes .3 seconds for my car to accelerate 2mph from 50-60mph, which makes my best run about 5.12 seconds.
Its a quick car, ive raced in it quite a bit. You just have to get your RPMs around 4000 to launch from a roll otherwise it takes a second to build power.
Heres a list
2012 IS 350
30 roll close but managed to stay ahead slightly
40roll pulled way harder put about a half car length ahead of him
2012 Mercedez E350
20 roll pulled about a car length ahead
40 roll not even close managed at least 2 cars ahead and kept pulling
Newer Camry TRD
Dig twice from light wasn’t close pulled ahead and kept pulling
Camero v6 2016-2024
60roll absolutely smoked kept pulling ahead till about 2 cars ahead

Techstream uses all the same sensors as the car, so still not an accurate way to test this. Dragy soon??

Ill see if i can get my hands on one, it was more of a reply to the other user claiming system scanners offer a more accurate results, and that would be my numbers for that theory.
& Is350 definitely arent slow lol, they consistently run sub 4.5 - 5 second 0-60 with damn near 12s 1/4… those 4.08 differentials wake a v6 right up.
Sure, FBO tuned IS350s can pull those numbers, since they make similar power as your stock 460 and come in around 800lbs lighter...
They aren't doing it stock, and if you beat one in a race, it was most likely stock...
Stock IS350s actually run low 13s pretty consistently. FBO are in the 12s. Specifically 2006-2015 models which came with a 4.08 differential that multiplies low end torque greatly.
The one I raced was my brother’s, it has a resonator and muffler delete, otherwise stock.
This isnt new information, theres plenty of posted times all over.
love it. come to think of it, i cannot recall the last time i seen a scanner in this state set for the high side. most are all set 20/25/30 entering pedestrian areas from highway.

My Mercedes speedometer by comparison is dead on.
I could swear I read something legit sourced that said Lexus intentionally ran their in vehicle speedometer at a higher than actual speed to try to trick/help drivers avoid possible tickets. I wish I were able to provide that source, but yea. Regardless, and ultimately like you stated, thread is about 0-60

Went back n read through posts. I should have tied this with/towards your post per #13...

I don't know if that is the motivation, but the speedometer reading 3MPH high is absolutely intentional.
