Car Wizard working on LS460L
This is one of those rare videos where I actually found the Car Wizard being intellectually dishonest.
As someone who works on German high end cars all the time, nothing about an LS460 should stand out as being especially "difficult" or "complex" to him. Its unusual for a Lexus, but he acts like they're unusual in general. This should be another day at the office for hum, He mentions the dual intakes and filters on each side and the multiple injectors etc and likens them to a Ferrari, thats absurd as Mercedes and BMW V8s have been laid out exactly that way for a long time. "High dollar electric fancy gadget shocks"...they're Mercedes style air shocks Wizard...you've replaced hundreds and hundreds of them.
"We would never reccomend the LS series"....does he recommend a Mercedes S Class? Same/Same. Never seen him go on and on in a presentation about an S Class or other flagship sedan.
As I have said before, the LS460 is a Lexus Mercedes...where the LS430 and LS400 were considerably less sophisticated mechanically than one...the LS460 is the S Class' mechanical peer...and with that comes S Class like challenges but also S Class like benefits.

Like I have said for years its not a Corolla or Camry replacement just because the cost of entry is similar. My 15 LS460 was $1,000 a month to lease. My 17 LS460L was $1,250 a month to lease. A new one will cost you $12-15,000+ a year either in lease payments or that or more in depreciation. If you buy an old depreciated one you save that cost but the tradeoff is potentially expensive repairs...which should not equal the cost of getting one new. Thats what it is...you want something at this level you gotta pay to play.

Skill issue and hyperbole. FFS I would give him some slack if he at least said "too complex for what it is" as I would agree with that but come on now.....it's not that bad and if anything on par with rivals.
If you don't want to deal with the reality of owning a flagship get an ES/GS

"you gotta pay to play" I notice my car sagging and no longer leveling. The air suspension compressor was replaced on my 2010 LS 460L for $2300 (crazy) at an independent shop. Parts and labor are extremely costly on an aging LS.
It's difficult in that it is packed with tech and not convenient to fix some things. The L version is even more inconvenient. Base model is tough enough with all the wires and tubes you have to remove to do maintenance on the car. I own a LS460 2012, and it is a mess. Not as messy as German cars, relatively speaking, for sure. But not a cake walk. LS is a complex car and most work will be a chore.

For what it is though an XF40 isn't bad, cars of this level simply have more stuff going on and Lexus unfortunately doesn't know how to package at this level.
Germans cars are far cleaner packaged and have lower labor times and are much easier time overall doing the same jobs. Parts are also insanely cheaper for OE, like the compressor example above if you had a German you could simply use a rebuild kit for $150

For instance on my S Class a bad thermostat is a $5k job that requires the whole front of the car to be disassembled. Not exactly great packaging!
