Hey everyone! Went through a maybe 6 inch puddle of water around 10 mph, 5 hours later no PS. Woke up next morning it worked for couple hours, stopped to get gas, then no PS. Replaced ECU with ebay ECU, same issue. Going to put old one back in and not sure what to do next. DC to DC converter? Dealer wants $1500 for ECU and then maybe rack and pinion for $2800 if that doesnt work. Any thoughts? So frustrating finding these electronic gremlins!
Hate to say it but the exact same thing happened to me. Fortunately, I had comprehensive coverage. I lied & told my insurance that i was at home & had high water in my driveway. Even though i drove very slow through the water....i was able to make it home, but in the morning, the steering was locked up. The dealership ended up replacing the rack & pinion & the ecu that's under the battery. Out of pocket, it would've cost me $3,900.

If you shake the steering and start at the same time, it will be normal. From what I know, it's detecting some moisture in the connectors on the rack. It went away for me after a couple weeks of dry.
I replaced rack and pinion and it was fine for couple weeks. Now, randomly power steering will turn off and PS light on. I pull over, restart car, and PS light is gone and driving fine. couple days later light and PS is of 3 times before I got home within 30 minutes of driving. Can it be moisture in connection somewhere? DC DC converter, or ecu? it was wet, I replace it, now it comes on every couple days randomly, but after car restart its gone. Please help !
I had the same issue with my car. 2012 LS460. Drove through deep water during a rainy day and that night P/S stopped working. The problem became intermittent, but more often than not it DID NOT work. I also had a low battery and had trouble starting the car. A few days later, I replaced the car battery and the P/S issue seemed to get better. The problem was still intermittent but the P/S worked far more frequently than before! However, I still want to fix the problem completely.
A tech told me to replace the rack. So now I'm looking for a rack. I do NOT have air suspension, the car is RWD, and I have 19" wheels. Does anyone know what other years/wheel sizes will use the same rack as mine? Are they interchangeable? Any help is appreciated! Or, if you think it wouldn't be the rack...why?

Thank you!!
My power steering went out my 2014 LS460L on one particularly rainy day in May. I remember going thru about 4" of water and the steering went out about 5 minutes afterwards. I had it towed to a shop that supposedly does as good work as the dealer but @ lower labor costs in Austin, TX.They charged $3000 to replace power steering control module on code C155. Then they said the code didn't clear and charged over $4300 to replace steering rack, program and alignment with a couple of tie rods. I almost decided not to do it but I felt I was stuck. Anybody got any thoughts?
Yeah, you got railed by a shop. EPS issues aren't ever cheap sure but it shouldn't be that expensive, you could have thrown a half dozen used racks at it for that price

I agree, those prices sound way too high. I've done a significant amount of part research and I'm seeing used racks from $200 to $1000 and ECU's from $75 to $175. I just dont want to throw money at a car that doesn't need it.
In the last week, I replaced the car battery, and the issue has significantly decreased. I will say this, though: when I start my car, sometimes I have P/S and sometimes I dont. I never lose (or gain) P/S mid-drive. I either have it or I dont, and I never know when I'm going to have it. However, since replacing the car battery, the times that I have P/S significantly outweigh the times that I dont. This leads me to believe that it's a wiring issue, or an ECU issue and NOT a rack issue. Anyone have any insight on this? Thoughts? Similar situations?

Thanks at least I know the truth. Even with new parts how much should that have cost?

$2300-3100 for a new one from Lexus, $1100-1400 rebuilt. I'll check book time later for the replacement but I know programing and calibration is 1.5 since I've had to relearn a few cars that were having problems.
