Default The Wife is Complaining

Ok this is new. The wife is complaining about the LS. First you need to understand I get to drive our 2010 LS460L when: It needs Gas, It needs washing or we are going on a long road trip. The wife is complaining that now she has to turn the climate control on every time she starts the LS and it always comes on set at 75 degrees. She claims it was not like this before and she does not know if she changed something causing this. I honestly don't know because I really don't get to drive it that much. So did she change something accidently? Is this a indication something is wrong with the system?

Thoughts Please

I believe, it is an indication of an issue with the HVAC unit. Did you get any error codes?

I replaced something called the ac amplifier $30 for a used one on ebay. It fixed ours which had the same issue always at 75f. It was a permanent fix, lasted 4+ years.

We sold our 2007 LS a month ago.

At the time I remember someone else posted on here with the same issue and same fix. In my case Techstream didn't show any ac faults.

Well I believe it turned out to be the cabin filter not properly seated. I put it on recirculate and opened the door and pushed down on the filter. Put it on Auto and set the temps at 72 and turned off the car. Waited a couple of minutes and restarted the car the auto was and the temp was still on 72. I will recheck again in the morning. I had not hooked up my techstream computer nor my Carista to see if there were any codes.

Well I was wrong. It is not fixed and I believe it is the recirculation door that is not opening. Will need to plug in Carista and see what type of codes the climate control system is throwing.

If you want to check the recirc door open the glove box door/remove tray/lift up panel/ ign on/ switch between recirc and fresh/observe door movement or lack thereof.

I remember reading a few years ago that if you don't follow the correct procedure for changing the cabin filter you can damage the unit and one of the symptoms is the AC always starting at 75 degrees.

Correct, do not move the door by hand. Ever.

The filter had not been changed in almost a year. I always followed the instructions for changing the filter and had not had any problems in the 11 years that I have owned the LS.

Ok I hooked my Carista App up and had 4 codes total. 3 were for the solar sensors on the driver side, passenger side and rear and were identified as such as I was parked in the garage while running the test. The 4th code was 1448 and was not identified as being associated with anything specific other than all 4 codes were identified in the AC section. I have come up with 2 possibilities. In December we were in Richmond for Christmas with the son. It was time to get the oil changed so I went to a Toyota service center and had the oil and filter changed. It is possible the Tech was doing a service check and checked the cabin filter without putting the system in Recirculate mode. We did not notice the issue until we were back in NWA after Christmas. Or the LS will be 15 years old in March and the Servo gave out and the LS with 116,xxx miles is starting to show her age? Not sure if we will address the issue given the cost to repair and the only downside being you now have to turn the system on manually. At 75 our days of taking long road trips are about over and the LS now get's driven maybe 25/30 miles a week depending on Doctor appointments. For you younger guys and gals just a reminder: Getting old is not for sissies enjoy every opportunity you have to drive your LS.

You mentioned you had access to techstream, from the system select screen you could go to air conditioner/ utility and run the initialize procedure. It states to be used after a servo change or disconnecting the battery, if it doesn't complete it may set a code or give you some info as to why it failed.

I hope you find it isn’t too expensive to fix and you get as many more miles and smiles, even if they are short trips. Please keep us posted.
