Strange Cracking/Grinding Noise from Left Variable Valve Timing Actuator
I’ve been noticing a strange cracking or grinding noise coming from the left side Variable Valve Timing actuator (driver's side) in my car. The noise sounds like plastic grinding, and it only appears once the engine warms up, typically when idling, such as at a traffic stop. It isn’t present at startup, and although it sometimes goes away for a while, it tends to come back.
There is no Check Engine Light (CEL) on, and the engine continues to run smoothly, Additionally, I’ve noticed a fast ticking sound during cold start, originating from the right side of the engine bay, lasting only for about 3 seconds before it disappears.
My car has over 200,000 miles, and I’ve been using Lexus official 5W-40 Fully Synthetic engine oil here in Dubai, I have searched the different forums and some suggested changing the engine oil, not sure though.
Has anyone experienced something similar or have any insight into what could be causing these noises? I’d appreciate any advice!
