Default 07 Ls 460 High Pressure Fuel Pump line replacement.

Hi there, I have a 2007 Ls 460 with 186K Miles. I took a look into my engine bay and noticed dried oil down the side of the block near cylinder housings 8 and 6.... 7 and 5. I did some research and found this is due to the high pressure fuel pump gaskets leaking. I decided to DIY it and here is the problem I am running into.

There are a variety of sensors and hoses that must be removed in order to complete this job. One of the hoses that need to come off is this hose circled in red displayed in the picture below. (THIS IS THE RIGHT BANK)

You can see all the oil surrounding the gasket😳

While I was trying to remove the nut connected to this hose I ended up turning the entire assembly (Green nut and Red nut). In the picture BELOW, the green nut should unscrew leaving the (red circled nut) unaffected. Not being able to disconnect the green nut from the red nut and night closing in on me I decided to tighten everything, connect all the harnesses and call it a night. The next morning I tried starting my car and it did not start first crank. It fired up on the second try, but something sounded very off. I let it warm up for a little bit, and as I returned to my car, I smelled a strong odor of un used fuel. Looking under my car, I see fuel dripping out from underneath it. As I open the engine bay fuel was pouring out from underneath the red nut.

Reading another form from user @fblonk says you will need to replace the entire pump if (Red Circled Nut) is disrupted! My assumption is there is some crush nut underneath that cannot be resealed once cracked.

While trying to remove the fuel pump, knowing I would now have to replace it, I held one wrench on the bottom nut and another on the top nut trying to break it loose. This resulted in the metal tubing (See Pic Below) getting twisted and mangled. Talking to other mechanics, they recommend that the entire tubing now be replaced due to the high pressure and the slight bends may disrupt the flow.

I found this listing on eBay (See Pic Below) purchased it and now would like to install it. I can't find anything online showing how to do this. Will I have to remove the manifold cover to get this installed?

Thanks for you Help!!

I don't believe, you need to remove the manifold. However, if you work from top of the engine, you will need to use a mirror to get to the bolts. It might be easier from below the engine.

So pretty much we were not able to get the line off with out removing the manifold

Good news is we will be replacing some gaskets that needed replacing anyway, much easier to access them with the manifold off!

Wasn't there a recall for these leaking gaskets last year?

My mistake, it was the gasket in the low pressure fuel pump, the one in the fuel tank. The high pressure fuel pump gasket recall was for older models (2007-2010)

Check for leaks at the valley plate before putting everything together.

I know this is an older thread, but since there's so little info on a lot of repairs for this car I thought I'd respond.

I went through this exact same pain a year ago. The intake manifold definitely has to come off to replace that hard line. It may be possible to slip it behind the manifold if you're very luck but there is a hose behind the manifold close to the firewall. I didn't see any possible way to remove the hose clamp without taking the manifold off and even then you'll want a mirror and a set of long needle nose pliers. The good news is that once the hose in the back is attached and clamped, the rest of the line is pretty easy to get into place.

Good luck if you haven't done it yet, and be sure to tell us how you did it if you have finished replacing the hard line.
