Is there such a thing as GPS initialization?
Hello fellow LSers. Without getting into specifics as to why, I ended up putting an entire bezel and Navi in my car that I found on eBay. Everything works as it should except for the fact that it will not leave Michigan even though I live in Miami Florida. As I Drive, it will find roads close to a street there and put me on that road instead of off road. At one point, i was driving over a lake. But still no where near me. Just for the hell of it, I put in my address and it said I’m 2500 miles away. Tried disconnecting battery and nothing. I’ve probably put 750 miles on the car since I installed it thinking it might get right and nothing.
I guess my question is, is there some sort of initialization for the GPS or have I forgotten to hook something up? TIA.

If this replacement unit matches the year of your car and is OEM, it should be plug and play. Different year could be an issue. Could also be the antenna is malfunctioning but unlikely. Could also be a defective/damaged unit you bought. It would be difficult to test a unit for functionality before selling it.
I think what you are experiencing is a lack of GPS signal. It could be as simple as failing to connect the coax cable from the antenna. The GPS antenna is in the middle of the dash, directly below the rear view mirror.
Thanks to all for the response. Went behind the Navi unit this weekend and indeed, I’d missed the gray plug coming from the antenna. Hooked it up and within minutes, the GPS was updated.
