Default Transmission BS

Hello everybody!
I have a 2007 LS 460 with about 150,000 miles. Recently I was told I would need a complete rebuild on my transmission and Lexus said that they didn’t have the room, and furthermore, I didn’t want to pay the price for dealership work. Long story short I went to a highly recommended shop but I keep having to go back because of two things. One, the car clunks into reverse, and two, has some pretty rough shifts where the rpms will spike up and I will immediately let off the gas. Any ideas on what it could be?? Let me know here or email me at jchsurfs@icloud.com with your opinion. 😊

Clunking could be drive shaft related at your mileage as well as trans. I've seen many posts here about flywheel issues and torque converter issues that give these symptoms. What did the shop do to fix your transmission?

Just replace it with a used one. It's way cheaper and if you throw a new converter in you should be fine

The shop told me the replaced everything in the transmission that needed to be but it’s been back several times, new torque converter, some solenoids etc.

I'd seek another shop opinion or just put in a used trans. As Striker 223 posted, it may be less aggravation and money.

I agree with swfla that the clunking could be a universal joint. As far as the high rpm's I'd say the torque converter is the culprit. I know you said it has been replaced, but .......

Did the shop do the transmission ECU relearn procedure? You need to reset the TCU in order for it to relearn the correct shift points. You have to reset it then immediately drive, shifting through all eight gears, then come to a complete stop. You have to do that repeatedly for 5-10 min until the TCU has relearned the correct shift points.

Suggest you ask the shop if they did the ECU relearn. Being they were highly recommended, they probably did. What has the shop told you about the issues you're having? Are you done dealing with them? We've given you a few suggestions. It seems to boil down to the shop willing and able to remedy the issues if you trust them or move on to get another opinion from a different shop.

You guys are all totally right about getting another shops opinion but I’m really worried about affordability on this one because I already paid $3600 to have everything redone and I don’t know how much more I can shell out for this transmission. But it seems like I’m gonna have to go to a different shop.

You're kinda in a bad position now, most legit shops won't want to touch it because someone else has already taken it apart, the shops that will work on it will have a bullet proof explanation for anything they do that doesn't get you the results you are looking for.
Did you take it to the shop that gave you a quote in this post?

What did the shop say about the issues you're having????? You're asking for help from us but you need to give us the info we request for the most accurate help. If they say there's nothing they can do, then it's reasonable to ask them to put in a replacement trans with some $$ credit given for their failed repair. A shop with a good reputation will happily do this. Have they eliminated the flywheel and the torque converter as causes? If you aren't willing to ask them these questions, not much we can say but replace it, no guarantees.

I am on vacation right now and whenever I ask them what they did, they said that they replaced some solenoids EDC I believe they also said they replaced the torque converter but other than that they won’t tell me what they did besides all the rubber seals

That's why it's not working. These tend to lose a servo in one of the drums and you need to fix that to solve the problem. Solenoids and TC won't fix that type of issue, that's why I said find a low mile used unit and a new TC
