Default Dash speaker replacement

I've had upgraded speakers in the dash for some time but recently one blew so I had to replace it- this gave me the opportunity to mount them better and I got to play with my new 3D printer. Using stock grill covers I got from ebay, I cut out the mounting holes for the tweeter and used the 3d printer to create a mount that I glued into the location for the 3.5, then screwed the new speaker into it.

How did you remove the speaker cover itself? I've been hesitant to just go for it. Thanks.

Speaker covers pop out. The metal grille is held in by metal clips (just extensions of the metal grill material) you can bend up. Once you bend them up, you can just push it off and the inside of it is that plastic piece which looks really nice just by itself.

I stole the mount idea from the guy that helped with my rear speakers- he had a laser cutter though, faster and simpler (a lot more expensive too). He cut the mount for the speaker and used epoxy to glue it directly to the opening in the door, sealing it at the same time as creating a mounting space- then just mounted it from the back. I used a similar idea for this mount. I used a material that was the same color as the car, hoping it would shine through like a little ring around the speaker... It does not.

Using a plastic spatula, gently work your way under the most rearward end of the speaker grill covers (the metal.and plastic piece come out as one). There are 2 clips, one front and one back. Once the back unclips, the front will follow as you push up, click, then pull out towards you.
press the spatula (plastic trim removal tool, wrapped screwdriver, basically anything that will not cut or damage the soft materials), gently right around in there and pry up, then out. Reverse to put back in.

This is what the underside looks like, so you have an idea. The clip in the bottom right is the clip closest to you on the car.
