Exclamation 2008 LS460 Question

Hi,

I have an LS460 that has been in storage for awhile. I plan on putting it back on the road soon. The first thing I plan on doing is pulling out the fuel sending unit, draining the old fuel and replace the sending unit if necessary. Does anyone know what type of sending unit it has? My research has turned up both an in tank sending unit and one under the hood, but I don't think it has both. Also, is the access to the sending unit under the rear seat behind the driver? Thanks

Randy

Fuel sending unit under rear seat. There's also a high pressure pump under hood for injectors. How long has it been stored?

Ok. I assume the rear seat just pulls up and out. It has been stored about a couple years. I'm sure the gas in it is no good. I don't even want to try to start it with the old gas. Thanks

There are some YouTube videos on removing seat. There are some seat wires that must be disconnected depending on the options you have. Overall your plan sounds good.

I would disconnect the fuel line in the engine bay and pump out the fuel using the tank pump.

This makes more sense to me as well. My question would be how to activate the tank pump. Would techstream be one option?

Yes, fuel pump can be activated using active test.

If before stored away for a couple of years, and the fuel pump was not disconnected then engine ran until it stopped, there may be more issues internally than just the fuel tank and related parts.

I agree with you. Injectors and fuel pumps could be gummy as well as lines.

Thanks guys. I will definitely try to pump out the old fuel in the line before attempting to start. I plan on changing out all the fluids along with the serpentine belt and battery too. I'm sure I will have more questions for the forum. If there is anything else that anyone feels that I should be on the lookout for, please feel free to comment. Thanks again

Make sure to replace the brake fluid. Do a full flush.

Yes, that is on the list. I have heard that you need techstream to activate the ABS actuator. Do you know if this is true or can I do it the old fashion way by cracking bleeder and using vacuum pump?

You need a Techstream or a 3rd party diagnostic tool capable of working with the ABS actuator. If you don't have Techstream bring it to a Toyota or Lexus dealer and ask them for a full flush. I believe, they do only front ones usually.

Okay thanks. I'm trying to do as much of this as possible but I figure there are going to be some things that I am going to need to take it in for.

Obviously, a lot will have to be checked and sorted out, especially if it's unknown how it was prepped before the long pause. May be a good chance the fuel injectors are fouled as well as other fuel related parts. Additionally, if the car was not raised off the ground, the tires may be out of round and/or past 6-7 years old. And hopefully, there's no rodent damage. Good luck, and please keep us posted on your progress.

BTW, where in FL are you? I'm in the SE near Ft. Lauderdale (if perhaps I can be of some help locally).
