Instrument panel turns mostly dark

Default Instrument panel turns mostly dark
So I start my 2006 LS430 and the instrument panel has normal illumination. But when I turn on the head lights the panel goes completely dark except for the gear indicator and the seat belt not connected alert. Everything else seems fine. Has anyone seen this before?

Did you try turning up your dash illumination ****?
