Default brake calipers

I just purchased some aftermarket wheels for my LS430 with 39,000 miles on it. They are Platinum Flux and really show off the calipers. Are there aftermarket calipers that might be black or some other color that fit this car. The stock calipers are very boring and drab grey.

Hello,

If you are satisfied with the current performance of your brakes, more effective way to make the calipers look better is to powder coat your current system. Here is a detailed article about it, but in short, powder coating is a very robust polymer, which is extremely resilient to wear and adheres to everything that can be heated to about 400F without any primer, even to glass. You will have to take your calipers apart and sandblast them though, since any surface imperfection, and I do mean any, will show up right through the coating, let alone the fact that the coating needs to be baked, yet the result is more than worth the effort in my opinion.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Just paint them. There are a million diy videos on YouTube and you can do it with the calipers still on the car. Shouldn't set you back more than $20 and a couple of hours of your time.

I suppose you can do that, but then there is a question of durability. Calipers go through a ton of heat cycles, so not a whole lot of paints will really last a good long while, at least not without degradation. I stand by powder coating, since I have a good amount of experience with it, and you can do it at home with an Eastwood kit and an electric toaster oven that can be found for free at garage sales. Sandblasting is still recommended for any method you decide to go with, but you can make do with just a wire brush, it will just take a while.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

I've had a chance to do some reading on it. It looks like the G2 product is pretty durable. It is an epoxy type paint that you put on with a brush. Lots of good reviews. It will take a full day and a day to cure.

Just paint it with VHT engine paint after spraying it down with brake clean after power washing it aggressively on the outsides only. It's good enough for 99% of brakes and will last year upon years and look more than good enough unless you have the rim off and are staring at it from 2 ft away......I paint all of my cars calipers black to make them look uniform/clean and none have had issues with flaking etc.
