I have a 02 Non-UL LS430 with 91k miles the stock (non-sport) suspension. Works perfectly fine but I think one of the front struts is bad. I know replacing the bad strut with new wouldn't be hard but I have the opportunity to by a 01 UL LS430 with 290k miles, as it was totaled by a deer. Most of the damage was to the hood and front bumper. How difficult would it be to add in the necessary air-suspension components from the UL into the Non-UL? Looking at the FSM the main components are the Struts, height control valves, and compressor. (see diagram). Would the vehicle recognize it's got the air suspension? Is the vehicle harness compatible?
Just looking at the electrical diagram for the air suspension system is a total nightmare, with numerous computers and sensors all talking to each other. Not sure if it would be possible to install a properly working system on a non-UL model!

I agree it would be quite a task. I am going to go look at the 290k UL on Friday and see what condition it is in. If I get it for a decent price I wouldn't mind having a spare LS430 in my yard just for parts. Thinking the insulated window glass and rear sunshades would be an easy mod to start.
I do wonder how many of the computer modules are already in the Base LS430's. I wouldn't think that they would have 2 different vehicle harnesses just to add the air suspension in? Would it be easier to add the air struts, then run them to an aftermarket compressor system where I'd manually set the shock pressure? I know nothing about aftermarket air suspension set-ups.
FYI, I decided against attempting the swap. The engine harnesses would have need to be swapped and I wasn't going to do that. Turns out a 22 year old 290k car that recently got totaled by a deer is a old car with lots of miles. Live and learn. Just going to replace the front struts with stock and enjoy the car how Lexus built it.
