Default Headlamp Adjustment

06 LS 60,000 miles. Drivers headlamp was shining too high. Read some excellent posts here and would like to add a couple of things:

1. Forget about going through the cover hole to turn the 10mm bolt. The torque required to turn the adjuster bolt strips the nylon gear. Plan on removing the cover.

2. During cover removal stuff some tissues below the screw areas as extra insurance should a screw get away from you. Also have a small magnet and mirror handy.

3. I saved the toughest screw (lowest and out of sight of the 4) for last. I found that it is not required to remove that screw entirely from the cover for the cover to lift off of the housing. In fact, by leaving half the length of the screw in the cover it made for a much easier installation.

4. Once the cover is off, you can adjust low/high beam vertical adjustment separate from each other. DO NOT REPLACE THE STRIPPED LINK. NOT NEEDED.

5. Simply re-install the cover and the next time you need an adjustment you can go through the access holes without needing to remove the cover because the stripped link has now been omitted.

6. The attached picture shows the stripped nylon gear. It was the one in contact with the low beam adjusting screw.

Best,

Tom
