On a cold start I get an abrupt screech sound, but as the car warms up during the day it isn’t presence anymore on startups. Have come to the conclusion it is the belt pulley? Causing the sound. Had my timing belt service 6 months ago which we did serpentine belt etc.
question is, can I just replace the bearing in said pulley? The one’s I bought and haven’t had installed are NSK 6203DDUCM. Size 17x40x12mm. Will these fit? and I am assuming this will save me forking out big money for the whole assembly? Which I might have to order from the US or Toyota locally.
just need to clarify, as my LS is due for service next month and I would like to have this annoying screech gone before winter hits.
Yes, if you have the tools the bearing can be pressed out and replaced. Many here, including myself, have done it.
Plenty of info here- https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...numbers-4.html
Be mindful the thread was created for a 400 and the idler pulley part number has been superseded many times over the years. Check your tensioner pulley as well while you're in there.
I'm guessing your issue is with the tensioner itself, not the pulleys. Belts screech when they don't have enough tension. Bearings make a chirp or a growl as they fail.
