Blown engine
Hi I have a blown engine in my 05 ls430 UL with 100k miles. Will it be worth it to get a engine replacement? What can I do with the car with a bad engine? Body and interior is in great condition, just replace 2 new air struts. I got qouted 4-5k for replacement. If I do decide to replace the engine can anyone tell me what should all be replaced while the engine is out? Also will the replacement be just as reliable as the original?

You should be able to get a used motor with a short warranty (to make sure it runs) from a salvage yard for about $1k. You’ll likely want to do some standard maintenance items when it’s put in like timing but should still be well under 4-5k. Source the motor yourself and try an independent Toyota Lexus shop for the work.

If you do replace the motor make sure the timing belt, water pump, tensioner cam seals and valve cover gaskets all get replaced.
I was driving down the highway about 30 min. Notice the thermostat isn't reading then car shuts down and over heat. Mechanic took it in and tried to do a pressure test. Said he couldn't get any pressure and it was internal problem. Took it to another mechanic and he said that the cost of fixing it would be the cost to get a new engine. Neither the two mechanic could pin point why my car overheat.
OP if you end up selling the car let me know, I am looking for another 430 for my LS swap. That is very low mileage the motor should not have blown maybe get second opinion?

I just got quoted for engine replacement 3k, change timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, valve cover gasket, cam seals, front and rear crank seal, oil and filter for another 1k. Anything else should be replace while engine is out? Should I do radiator and motor mounts as well?
Sorry to hear about the overheat. I'm assuming the second mechanic checked to confirm no compression?
Yes to replacing the radiator. Peace of mind if nothing else as the original has many hot/cold cycles on it.
Unless the mounts are bad then they don't need replacing.
The rest of the list sounds smart.
I would add renewing the rubber vacuum and water hoses as they get old and crack with heat and are easier to get to when engine is out.
May as well salvage your vvt solenoids, starter, knock sensors, belt tensioner and idler from the original engine (to use or stash away)
