You'll need to budget money for the sub which is mounted in the rear package tray shelf. The speaker surrounds all tend to deteriorate after a few years.
Be very wary of mechanics cars, most of us have 3-5 and there is a trend that at least one of them is the beater that barely gets fixed and with cheap parts only. One is the fast one, and one is the pretty one, and some have a car that is fast, comfortable, and very shiny.
I doubt an LS would be that car but it's not impossible, my Jeep is the one I kinda just limp along but I wouldn't sell it in its current state.
Hey, I'm the guy that posted the crazy excel list of 20+ cars two weeks ago and asked for help picking one
One car that just popped up looks like a really good deal.
160k for 4k in light blue(my fav color)
timing belt done at 90.
it has some scuffs on the rear and drying leather on the drivers side but that just looks like age
belonged to a mechanic
only is issue is door actuator not working.
I'm waiting for the vin to see if its premium or ML.
When I test drive and inspect the car, what should I check for ?
Seems like just an ok price for a 2002 base with a few problems. Make sure there are no other "hidden" necessary repairs lurking. Once the car gets this old, it requires a very thorough inspection to pick up on any other issues. When I purchased my car over 10 years ago, I made a long list of everything in the car to check...After inspecting each item, I placed a check mark ,if working properly, and moved forward. I'd check all the electronics and try to get the car on a lift to check for any engine oil or transmission leaks. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
An absolutely filthy engine bay says a lot about how an owner takes care of the car. Look at the color of the brake fluid - dark brown. Obvious neglect speaks volumes and tends to indicate other areas will be problematic too.
In my mind, the only reason to shop for, let alone buy, an LS430 is to experience, as best you can, the supreme quality and reliability of one of the best cars ever made. Unless it checks all the boxes in terms of cosmetic and mechanical condition and no signs of neglect anywhere, pass on it. Many cars WILL pass this test, they have been valued and obviously cared for their entire life, but you have to pay for them. If you are even willing to consider one that has obvious signs of neglect, save $$$ and buy a Corolla or Civic. My 2 cents.

Good point. The white one was going for 9k. The car didnt even start because of the battery was dead and the rotors look rusted. That's why I took the picture .
The important thing, Jaimer, is that you're seeing cars in person, giving you a basis for future comparison. It's been almost 50 years, but I remember the feeling of being a first time buyer!
Wow that one was ridden hard and put away wet. That is just sad. Keep on looking, don't get discouraged. These are not rare cars you'll find the right one.
