Default Reverse light wont come on.

Hi I need help, I have a 2001 LS430 and the reverse light doesnt come on and that means that my rear view camera doesnt work either. I read that it can be the transmission neutral switch (NS), but the transmission doesnt show any issues shifting or changing between reverse, park and drive. What can it be?

Debonair, everything works except the reverse lights. I already checked the bulbs and they are good. It looks like they are not getting any power to those lights and since the rear view camera gets its power from it it doesnt turned on either.

OEM rear view camera or aftermarket?

OEM gets its power from the "Television Camera ECU", not the reverse light circuit.

Its aftermarket. I recently upgraded all the speakers and amplifier from the car at Best Buy and had them check the camera to see if it had gone out or something. They said camera was good, it just had no power coming from the wire going to the reverse lights. They were the ones that told that it could be the safety neutral switch on the transmission, but once again I dont have any issues with the gears or any of the other lights.

OK. You need to start with a multimeter or test light and determine if its the 12v or the Ground that is not making it to the bulb socket. Then I would check at the point where the camera is tapped into the reverse light wires to make sure it did not completely sever it.

After that its a matter of tracing it back to wherever the connection is broken.

I should add that the fuse for the reverse lights also powers the tail and brake lights along with a bunch of other stuff so its very unlikely its a fuse issue.
