Question Pre-converters

IS there such a thing as a pre-converter for a 2004 ls430? Mechanic recommended 2...… Plus gaskets 2 upper & 2 lower.....Idea for parts costs
Car has 270,000 but runs really good

Yes but those are actually the main ones, each side of the engine has a cat bolted immediately to the manifold then a y pipe leading to a larger 2ndary cat that is not monitored by the system.

The OE cats are very expensive to the order of $800-1000 but if it was my car those are what I would use.

Why does your mechanic recommend to replace the converters? If your check engine light isnt saying they are bad I wouldn't replace then until it does. Even if the ecu says the cats are bad you can put a spacer on the oxygen sensors that will fool the ecu into thinking the cats are ok for a little while.
