I am replacing tires soon. My Michelin Destiny P225/60R-16 97T M&S tires were installed in September 2011 at 69,460 miles and are well worn at 136,717 with over 67,000 miles on the tires.
I live in northern Illinois and want an all season tire that works decent in snow and rides well. Does anyone have any suggestions? I could not locate the tire link today, although I have found it before. Many thanks for your help. Best,
If you can get Michelin Premiers with a "DT" on it (new generation and will have 10/32" to start) I do recommend them. It was the treadwear and premature wear that caused this tire to get a 2.3/5 on the Michelin website, and why I would not have previously recommended. Always treadwear, never performance, for the negative feelings towards them. It seems Michelin corrected the problem. The DT has an updated compound and additional tread. I have not seen the DTs in person but plan to--that way when we get warranty replacements we can recognize that we got the new generation.

Michelin Defender T+H 80,000 mile warranty. (Defender replaced Destiny. Defender T+H is the improved Defender) Exceptional year-round traction and control and a smooth, quiet, comfortable ride. (But, only if you always drive less than 120 mph)
Walmart - $130 Some have it for less. (msrp around $?)

Reason: msrp???
I have a possibility for you. Vredestein Quatrac Pro. I see them in 245/45r18 at least. On my Lexus LS430 I wanted something good for snow (given it is RWD) and bought Toyo Celsius 2 winters ago. There are quite good in snow but I do not love their wet traction (and they seem to lose grip on dusty road turn I need to make more than other tires I have had)., And I have had had some startup steering wheel vibration that might be (maybe) flat spotting. I had the same tire brand (Toyo Celsius) on my previous Buick Lesabre and liked them better but I would not really recommend them anymore for reasons just mentioned. But they are quiet and comfortable except for the occasional vibration issue.
My wife drives a Cadillac XTS which I have never liked much, It was noisy and the XM radio sounds like mono from inside my head (my Lexus has the original satellite radio add-in and it sounds at least to be in Stereo!). I have read that the 2016 Goodyear rs-a2's were very noisy (Cadillac improved XTS for 2018 by changing the stock tire). Anyway, got unrepairable tire damage from a nail in one of the tires and 2 others were more worn (I had changed 2 after a blowout 2 years ago) so I decided on 4 new ones. Rechecked for "all-winter" tires. Found Vredestein Quatrac Pro on tirerack that they went crazy over. I had seen quatrac 5 before but the Pro were new, and snowflake-mountain symbol rated for winter. I just took a chance on them (FWIW, Mavis matched the price from Tirerack and did even better, even though their salesperson had never even hear of Vredestein and did not regularly stock them... credit to them...)
I got the tires two weeks ago. The XTS feels like a new car, and NOT just because the old tires were (relatively, not totally) worn out. They are so much quieter that the Caddy finally feels like a luxury car, and the grip I feel is better than the Toyos on my Lexus. Of course I haven't driven in snow yet, but living on Long Island in NY that is a secondary concern and they ARE snowflake-symbol rated so I bet they will be fine. The other issue is that they are treadwear rated for 40k miles, a bit low for me, but Consumer Reports estimated their lifespan at 60K.... Not ideal but my former Michelin MXV-4's on my LS430 did not last beyond around 65k. If iI get 50K I will be reasonably happy.
So if you want good grip and reasonable (time will tell) tread life and a GREAT feeling tire in my opinion, consider the Vredestin Quatrac Pro (not the same as the Quatrac 5, these are newer and better in wet. Designed for more luxury cars, "grand touring"). I can't say long term, but after the cruddy eagle rs-a2s on the XTS they are the biggest difference i have ever experienced in a tire switch, especially given that the rs-a2 were far from fully worn out. I actually like driving the xts now, except for the xm radio (and that the HID headlights are abyssmal and on the ls430 are fantastic.)
oops if you want 225/60R16, the Quatrac Pros will not fit. Quatrac 5 is worth considering, too, getting good reviews, but I have not tried them personally...

I been taking my time looking for a new set and been waiting for the Premiers with DT, but have not find it anywhere. I think it is too new that it has not reached local stores.
Well, to make the matter worse, this morning I find out that our other car has a leaking/seeping radiator. I have the radiator ordered, but won't get here until end of the week, so I now desperately need to have the LS back on the road asap. Currently the LS is on 3 Michelin MXV4 and a old spare tire, so it has been sitting in the garage. One of the MXV4 blew ~2 weeks ago.
I have decided to get Continental ExtremeContact dws06. I am planning to buy this set first thing tomorrow am. I think it has too much "performance" for what we do in the LS, but it does well in wet and snow condition (very important), and pretty quiet and price is not bad.
Maybe with this Continental I can take the corner a bit faster with the LS haha
