Completely unrelated but I recently changed out my dad's Toyota Tundra's factory COPPER plugs and they went 190,000 miles without a misfire. But just because you can go longer with copper plugs, you shouldn't because it'll strain the ignition coil and the cost of ONE of those is double the price of all 6 spark plugs. I just thought it was cool how long they can be neglected and still function perfectly. Strangely enough, like others have noted, one bank was NGK the other was Denso plugs.

 

Same! Absolutely love my '04 and this forum. I'm about to use another thread's recommendation and upgrade to the sport suspension. My only gripe is that the tail lights dont use bulbs. It's all LED so if your tail light goes out, you have to replace the entire assembly which can be $200-$300 for each side. I want to try to open it and solder individual LEDs but there's not a lot of info on how to do that.

 

I'd sure like to know, I just booked 14.21 over a full tank, the lowest I have ever seen in 3 years. Interesting too that I put in those amazon Denso 3297 plugs and it's been like this ever since...hmm.....

 

TOO FUNNY! When I want all those performance enhancements, I just jump into my CVPI and away I go... not with the best mileage but way more fun! Maybe some Slick 50 too... Maybe someone out there wants to buy a bridge? and a slightly used K&N air filter

I just filled up with a tank of non-ethanol 93 and so far the car runs smoother and I will see how, if any, changes there are to MPG.

 

Are you sure you got real plugs? Spark plugs are a common counterfeit item. I wouldn't even trust items "shipped and sold by Amazon.com" because they mix stock.

 

That was tongue in cheek... in case you missed it :-) Slick 50 was debunked back long ago... I use Royal Purple Full Synth and only that in all my engines.

Oh yes.... (Post was in support of your humor and also for benefit of anyone curious about the research.)

 

My car gets apprx 21.1 mpg overall mix of suburban and small town driving. Driving interstate at mostly 70mph I get as high as 26.7 for a tank running premium. The highest mpg for a tank I ever reached was running 93 octane (approx 2.5 mpg more) but since 93 octane where I live costs more it not really worth the cost. In the winter months I regularly run 87 octane regular gas and the car runs perfect and still averages 21.0 overall over multiple tanks. Note that we live in the South with no ice or snow and in a low traffic town with virtually no heavy traffic. Routinely driving an LS430 in heavy traffic in a city, even driving carefully, is going to result in 16-17mpg avg tanks.

Making sure wheels are properly aligned and tires in good shape. I'm sure its already been posted but running tires at 32-36 lbs will also help.

 

Yep, I keep my tires about 4-5 Psi above OEM (32), and have have always been dazzled by 27 and sometimes 28 on road trips. I just bought and 04 with the 6-speed and drove it 1200 miles home averaging 29 and even hit 30 for a bit. Pretty great for a 3950-lb V-8!
In town different story.....I live amongst hills, so try to maintain 18.
