Exhaust Y pipe options?
Ok, so I have P0420 and probably need to repair or replace my Y pipe.
I hope to take a look at it soon, but if it's not just a leaky gasket or weldable leak and I have to replace the Y pipe, what are the options out there?
I've seen the Magnaflow Stainless systems and I can get one for around 500GBP including import duties from the USA to UK.
There is also the Davico but I believe that is mild steel except for the Cat (400GBP).
There are some cheaper ones too but none of those will ship overseas and they look like mild steel to me.
So what have you used and what are your opinions on it?

I purchased a genuine/oem Toy/Lex Y-pipe on Ebay for over $500. I had a buddy remove the old swiss cheese-like pipe, and install the new pipe.
When we put the LS up on a lift to do the work, to my surprise, there were MANY holes in the pipe! It was the original with about 150k miles on it. I live on the east (right) coast where the highway department lays (flings) rock salt onto the roadway during winter weather events to prevent winter weather driving woes.
After driving the loud LS for ~10k miles, then replacing the corroded pipe, the new pipe seemed AMAZINGLY quiet. I forgot how much it was a pleasure to drive.. I fell in love with the LS again.

I had the same code a few months ago. I bought this : https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=5021931
And had an independent shop install it for $40.
Some people recommend that you pick up OEM gaskets to use w/ that pipe. I used the ones that came with it. The exhaust shop told me they were fine. No trouble yet, but like I said it has only been a few months.

I had a P0430 (Bank 2) code a few months back. Mine turned out to be a leak at the y-pipe to catalytic flange joint. I bought two new gaskets, which I did end up using but I think the root cause was the rotting away of the inside flange material surrounding the old gasket. I cleaned out all of the loose material that was on both sides of the joint and applied liberal amounts of high temperature sealant around the gaskets. So far it has held up well.

I just bought the Davico Y pipe and I was comparing it to mine and the one on my car does not have the welded bolts that go to the dampers, or the dampers, obviously. I'm the second owner but I've had it for 100k. I'm guessing the previous owner had the stock Y pipe replaced with a custom pipe and they eliminated the dampers? They did put the heat shielding back on, which is of course where it is leaking. Would you get the dampers now that I have a pipe that can support them? Never knew I missing them!

Actually, looking at a used 2004 on ebay it doesn't have them either. So perhaps the dampers were eliminated at some point and I am still stock?

I installed my Davico Y pipe this weekend. Fits perfectly, no welding or bending, just used hand tools and a dremel for cutting bolts when needed. If you get it I strongly recommend getting the OEM front gaskets as they have a much smaller diameter than the ones that come with the pipe, and I can't imagine using those would work. Part number is 90917-A6003 and you'll need two. Also, there is a silver colored gasket that goes in the center pipe where the Y pipe connects, 17451-50020. My guess is anyone with fitment issues did not replace this gasket and therefore did not get a good seal. Finally, I used the 4 OEM flanged bolts 90105-10558 and nuts 90179-10128, and clamp 17452-50020 and clamp bolt 90119-08931. I'd recommend the nuts and bolts but any similar band style clamp would probably do. Hope this helps someone out.
I ended up taking down the entire exhaust and found some holes in the muffler tops. I patched them with muffler sealer and it's very quiet for now. The mufflers don't seem to do much, most of my noise was coming from the Y pipe, but if anyone has some good stock mufflers on hand I'd be interested.

Took it to a local independent exhaust shop near me and he pinpointed it to a leak on the top of the left part of the Y-pipe, about 4-5 inches after the Bank2 Sensor2 Lambda sensor.
It seems this is a common spot for them to die, so he is gonna replace the whole Y-pipe (both sides) with new pipe and fit it to the existing Y-pipe CAT for approx £150 (US$190).
Booked in for next week so we shall see how it goes.

Sounds like a commercial...
Tell us about Country of Origin for materials and labor for Magnaflow mufflers.
Elaborate how Magnaflow equals or exceeds OEM specifications: durability (tubing/flange thickness, stainless steel), exhaust gas velocity (shielding), and low NVH (mounting for factory exhaust vibration /resonance dampers).
Thank you.

Well, I'm quiet again after a local exhaust specialist worked his magic. $200 is cheaper than any of the Y-pipe options.
I've yet to get under the car to see what was done but she is back to being a Lexus again.
Will post pics when I do.
P0420 is gone too, which means I have my VSC and Traction Control back again.
Happy days!
